My cousin has also his at road block with him and we are both digging around. Thank you thank you thank you!!! The names match...I have a copy of his death certificate and his mother's maiden name is listed as Trimble. I feel so silly for missing those I must have over looked them in the tunnel vision of Illinos. I will definately look at those and pass the information to my cousin...she has been looking for awhile now. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. In at least two censuses it states his birthplace as Indiana. As you've no doubt seen there are several public trees for James Willis, son of John Robards Willis and Sarah Elizabeth Trimble, born in Haddon Twp., Sullivan Co., IN. This is right on the IL-IN border, so maybe James wasn't sure where he was born, or perhaps the family lived on the other side of the river. When I check Ancestry's Idaho records, I don't see it there. I'm not sure why. You should probably get both the death and marriage records to see if they hold any further clues. One thing I found was from the April 9, 1923 Seattle Daily Times: a final decree was signed, granting a divorce to Emma Willis from James C. Willis. The Aug. 27, 1922 edition says the complaint was filed yesterday in Superior Court. If this is your couple, there may be additional genealogical info in the divorce papers. Author: lewisreay2 Surnames: Moir Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/147/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am having difficulty finding John Moir b. 1838 d. 1906, shoemaker married to Ellen White b. 1848 They had 7 children: Nellie, Amy Julia, Augustus Ernest, William, Ernest Augustus, Walter Henry and Frances Edward from 1869 to 1882. Thing is they just seem to have disapperared in the 1871 and 1881 census. Amy Julia appears to be living with her maternal grandmother Jane White but I can't find any of the others. This isn't helped by the very common mistranscription of the Moir surname - I have seen Mori, Moor, More, Muir and Mair, all relating to my Moir ancestors. I have tried all these variations still with no luck. The family lived in St Lukes, Shoreditch, Islington, Clerkenwell and that area of London. The births of the children seem to suggest they were still in this area either side of the 1871 and 1881 census. I would be grateful of any help or advice for trying to locate their census records. The other Moir's I am trying to locate are also John, shoemaker b. est 1766 d. 1849 in Waterloo Road Workhouse, Bethnal Green. Married to a Mary, but I haven't been able to locate a marriage record. They had at least 2 children - John b. 1808 and George b. 1810 d. 1882 in Holborn Union Infirmary, also a shoemaker. He was married to Mary Ann Collins and John who I can't find in the 1871/81 census is one of their children. Bascially, I am trying to find birth/baptism and marriage records for John Moir and Mary as I am trying to push the tree backwards to find out when the family came to London. Moir is a Scottish name with origins in the North East of Scotland. Any help/advice you can give would be gratefully received on my Moir ancestors. I am looking for America Romine (b 1842 Indiana) This is per her death information and various census year's report. I will try to give a time line on her and the research I have done (7yrs). > > She was born 1842 in Indiana and died 1888 in Minnesota. According to the non-certified death record from Murray county Minnesota death date 5/9/1888 and name was America E Donaldson (she is found in the Keokuk Iowa 1860 census as married to John). Cause of death listed as Billons Fever (your guess is as good as mine on this). Her birth place Indiana Father's birth place Romania (probably wrong as later researched proved all census records listing America Donaldson lists Father born in KY). Mother born in Wales (again census reports list her birth in KY). First name of Father Jacob and Mother's maiden name Frances (could be either first or last I have not been able to find any information on her anywhere. > > CENSUS RECORDS > > 1850 she is shown living in Linn county Iowa with the Samuel Osborn family and her last name is spelled Romain-age9. Also living with the Osborns is her brother, John H- age13, last name spelled Romane. John's twin sister, Nancy-age 13, is living with the Robert Stewart family. 1860 records show none of the Romines living with either Osborns or Stewarts. According to my request to the Genealogical Society of Linn County, Iowa a Jacob Romine is living alone in Monroe Twp. This could be America's father. He shows up in the 1856 Iowa state census as living in Linn county Iowa and now married to a Jersusia Harres and he has two step children Rilla Harres and Amanda Harres plus a son called Jacob H Romine (this census shows he was born in KY). > > 1860 shows America's last name now Donaldson and living in Keokuk county Iowa. Also living in Keokuk county is John and Flora Bruce. Floar is John Donaldson's sister. Did a small bit of research on John Bruce and saw that he came from Indiana. Two children are born to America and John in Iowa Clyde Donaldson born 1863 and William Grant born 1864 (have been unable to find any birth information anywhere) This census report has America and John married within the yr. (no luck finding any marriage info anywhere I check in Iowa Linn-Keokuk. etc. > > 1870 America and John are living in Rice County Minnesota. Have been to the Rice county Historical Society and they had no information. They had a daughter born 1866 in Fairbault, Minnesota. > > 1880 America and John are listed in Belfast, Murray Minnesota. Again the birth place of America's parents is listed as KY. > > 1886 per Minnesota state census listed in Belfast, Murray County, Minnesota. America's birth place listed as Indiana. Son Clyde is 22: Grant 21; Josie 19 and married to a Seader Brown, born in PA. > > More Research I have done: > > I have the marriage cert of Josie to her second husband and her mother's name is listed as America Romine. I have a copy of the homestead papers for John Donaldson. America is listed, but no info other than her name. > > The Historical society of Murray and Jackson counties in Minnessota have very little info and no obit for America other than a mention in the newspaper that she has died and will be missed. Her son, William G., died of TB May 14 1886 and son, Clyde, died of Brights disease Nov 1898. Josie and her second husband moved on the Montana and her death cert. lists John Donaldson as father and blank for mother. > > I have been to America's grave and found that she is buried in the same plot as her son William (sad). We finally found her name at the very bottom of the marker almost gone. Within 5 weeks after her death John went back to Illinois and married his first wife (I have this marriage cert.) He lived 12 yrs and died in Marengo, Illinois and is buried in the Scotch/Stewart cemetery. He died in the house of his neice, Margaret Pringle, with whom he was living. > > 1840 Census Records > > Several listing's of Jacob Romines and also found both Samuel Osborn and Robert Stewart living in Indiana. Since the census reports give very little information my next place to start looking is the Allen Public Library. I assumed that America's mother died in Indiana and can find no death report or information for her. Jacob after the Iowa 1856 state census disapears. Perhaps the Civil War? > > When I contacted the Linn county Genealogical Society I asked for any possible information on guardianship papers. They could not find any. In going back in Osborn genealogy I find that way back in the 1700's an Osborn and a Romine married. > > America and John Donaldson are my third great grandparents and their son Clyde is my great, great grandfather and his son, Jay, is my grandfather. The living Donaldsons I have found (including a second cousin) seem to know nothing about America. > > Thank you all for taking the time to read this and I hope that out there somewhere someone may be able to help me. I have put most of the above information on the Romine forum some time ago. > > Will gladly answer any questions that may be of help. > > Sarah Caroline (Morris) Winckelman > > (Morris) is due to the fact that I was adopted at age of 6 months in 1932. My biological parents were 14 and 17 years old. >
