His name was William Robert Stephens b1870-1943. He married Clarissa Caroline Hood and they live in Short Creek AL where he had the general store. They had 3 children: Leola, Bessie Savannah(my Grandmother) and Jerry. William was also a justice of the peace and married many people in the area.I have been unable to find out anything regarding his parents. My mother has told me that the story was that his mother, whom we think was named Eliza, died in childbirth and his father took him to Georgia (Savannah area) to be raised by her mother. That is all that we know. If anyone has any information, I would really appreciate it. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. William Francis Symonds was one of five children born to Francis Baldry Symonds 07 Mar 1842 Swefling, Suffolk died 18 Feb 1892 buried Framlingham, Suffolk and Francis' wife Sarah born 17 Jan 1839 Macclesfield,Cheshire died 1908 or 1911. This family moved from Islington London to Vienna Austria sometime between 1881 (when they appear on that census) and 1891 (no trace on that census). William's siblings, all born Islington were, Harry born 1871 died 1918 Norfolk, Frederick born 1872 died 04 Dec 1944 Kingston upon Thames, Jessie born 1877 no death details and Ellen born 1879 no death details. We know that William married Gretl, presumably Austrian and have postcards from Vienna dating from 1933 signed Onkel Willy and Tante Gretl. We know that William was 70 in June 1939 in Vienna. We know that Jessie had at least one daughter, Hilde, who was seriously ill with leukemia in Vienna in 1939. We believe Harry may have had 2 children, Harold and Emmy, of whom no further details. We know that Francis Baldry Symonds, his wife and 2 sons Harry and Frederick returned to England either together or separately. Frederick appears on 1901 census with first wife Rosina. My wife and I would be most grateful for any information on those whom we believe remained in Vienna at the outbreak of WW2, namely, William Francis, Jessie and Ellen and whatever family details you can provide. Thank you all in advance. Norman Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The information on the possible siblings came from one of my mother's cousins. I spoke briefly with my Aunt (Florence Ellon was her grandmother) and she has no recollection of her parents or any family information from Frorence. I will check the possible leads. I have followed the Russel T Crain and Mary Dale line---I really have no other information but it just did not seem right. I will re check it. Thanks for the help! Author: PHelfand46 Surnames: Hill Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/149.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am guessing that you have the following marriage record already? Missouri Marriage Records, 1805-2002 about Florence E Hill Name: Florence E Hill Marriage Date: 2 Mar 1896 Marriage Location: Roscoe, St Clair, Missouri Marriage County: St Clair Spouse Name: J K Robertson (name faded - could be JW Roberson) ------------------------------------------------------- Do you have any more info about the death of Sarah E Hill in Roscoe MO in 1902? Could she possibly be the Sarah Elliott below who may have remarried? Roscoe is such a small town that the listing of a Joseph S Hill (d. in 1885) married to a Sarah E Hill seems like a very strong coincidence. One possibility, if Joseph S Hill died in 1885, perhaps some of his young children may have been sent to live with relatives or put up for adoption? I know that you said that Joseph Hill, son of Joseph S Hill and Sarah E Crane, was born about 1879. Do you know when he died? I kept hunting for other possibilities and kept coming back to the following Joseph Hill. I searched in both St Clair and in Roscoe for 1880 and 1900 census records using first name as well as last name only searches with 5 to 10 year - age ranges. 1900 United States Federal Census about Joseph S Hill Name: Joseph S Hill Home in 1900: Roscoe, St Clair, Missouri Age: 37 Birth Date: Jan 1869 Birthplace: Missouri Race: White Gender: Male Relationship to Head of House: Head Father's Birthplace: Virginia Mother's Name: Sarah Mother's Birthplace: Tennessee Spouse's name: Ella A Marriage Year: 1894 Marital Status: Married Years Married: 6 Household Members: Name Age Joseph S Hill 37 Ella A Hill 27 Mona Hill 5 Orval Hill 3 Joseph Hill 2 Sarah Elliott 62 I will keep hunting to see if I can find another Hill family that seems to fit any better. It would be interesting to know if the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in St Clair Missouri would have any more information about the Joseph S Hill who died in 1885. His marriage to a Sarah E appears to be his second marriage. The first was to a Jane. Since she was born after the 1930 census, there are no online records that show her with parents.) http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#surname=Pond&searchType=close&p=recordResults&givenName=Ralph&collection=fs:1452395 Click Ralph's name in the second entry, showing Ralph and Frances, to see record details. If you click Record Image along the right hand side of Record Details, it brings you to the actual register. The index also lists Ralph's and Frances' parents' names.
