The census and vital records info seems to be a little bit more accurate, but it can still be the wrong person with the same name. Family tree hints are only as good as the researcher who made the tree. Some trees are very accurate and some are totally wrong. They can be useful for leads, but you really need to verify the info provided by family trees and make sure it is correct and actually applies to your family. Thanks for the help from both of you. I think my mistake was not looking at the census when the hint leaf came up on the profile. I'm going to make a different tree and try it that way. Building these trees is just trial and error I suppose. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It would be very helpful if you would share some more information such as name(s) of those at your brickwall...where were they born? married? last living? What records have you searched? Etc, Etc. As to type of membership...are you asking if it would be beneficial to change the billing option (i.e. going from monthly to yearly???)...if so, the records available to you for any subscription choice are the same whether you pay monthly or yearly. Author: Star_kar Surnames: REID Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/162/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am desperate to find the parents of my great-great-great grandfather, Isaac Reid, born in 1828. He married Ellen Watts in 1850 in Prestbury, Cheshire, Rachel Sharpley in 1851 also in Prestbury, and Amelia Tapp in 1855 in Plymouth, Devon. On his first two marriage certifcates, no father's name is given, but on the third (which I should note he lied about his bachelor status-being still married to Rachel back in Cheshire), he lists his father as Samuel. My research so far indicates there was a Samuel Read living in Macclesfield at the time, a silk weaver like Isaac, but the 1841 census shows no sign of Isaac living with this family. In fact, I have not been able to find any Isaac Reid/Read/Reed in Cheshire in the 1841 census. It is possible Isaac may have invented father "Samuel". Any help finding Isaac Reid in 1841 or any indication of Isaac's parents (or proof that he was an orphan and I should give up looking) would be greatly appreciated. Author: LHSwisher Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/161.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: dklart is correct. Have you found Ernest in census records? Find all certificates and info on him and any siblings he may have had (1900, 1910, 1920, 1930) and compare the info given for Moses in those censuses. Get a copy of the actual marriage record for Moses and see what clues are given. Then you'll be in a better position to note any discrepancies. Census records do depend on whomever gave the information, especially for anyone in a residence who is a boarder or lodger, and not related to the family. Who ever was the spokesperson in the household gave the info and the veracity of it depends on how well they were informed, particularly about those they weren't related to. Do you have a copy of the actual marriage record you found indexed? That would give you more clues to his origin, his parents, as well as the brides. The info on a marriage record was given by the principles. All document transcriptions can have error, collecting as many documents as you can find helps to sort out the story, especially when searching uber common surnames.
