Author: coleren Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/174.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: You're so right about the generalizations based on how someone looks. Yes, they were Catholic. I've been looking in Sonoran church records, but I haven't come across where to look for Arizona ones. I'm going to start looking for those tomorrow. Antonio Noriega's (b. 1897) parents were married in Tucson. I have their marriage record. Jesus and Concepcion were married September 1, 1896. I ordered it from Arizona state marriage records and it didn't mention any other person present. My grandparents (their son) doesn't either. In fact I was pretty disappointed because I paid a lot of money and the copy was very poor. Their record is for Jesus A. Norrega (misspelled) and Concepcion Castro. I also have a copy of the handwritten declaration of Intent for Jesus Noriega. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The only way to find a public tree is by searching a particular name, you can't search the tree by the tree name. 1) Do you have a copy of the actual marriage record of Jesus and Conception? 2) Do you have a copy of the actual Declaration of Intent (Naturalization) for Jesus Noriega? You have an index transcription of the two record citations attached to your tree. You need to get the actual documents. They'll have extended info. You're not going to find these documents on the internet, but you can find information of how and where to get them by googling. Author: dklart Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/174.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Please be careful of making gross generalizations about origins based on skin color or "features". Not all Spaniards are light skinned, not all Indigenous people have high cheek bones, not all people from x look like x because they're from x. Is this clan Catholic? If so, you're best resource are church records. 1) Find the bap record for Antonio Noriega b 1897 2) Build his family, find his siblings's bap records (and marriage or any other). Note all the godparents listed. Godparents are typically extended family. The godparents of the eldest children are sometimes the grandparents. 3) Were Antonio's parents married in the US? What year? You might find the marriage record in the same place as the bap records. The parents will be listed, and perhaps more; ie witnesses tended to be extended family. Finding extended family, ie: siblings of both parents, Jesus and his wife, will help build a more complete picture and enable you to trace their movement into the US. All records are not on the internet, look in the library catalog on familysearch.org. Locate the nearest FHC near you and be prepared to spend some time researching. Chances are the church records are in Latin. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I've been trying to find information on my dad's family. I've hit a brick wall when it comes to his grandfather, Jesus Noriega, and where he came from. With help, I've found info on other relatives of my dad, but on his dad's father's side, I can't get any further. My dad is 75 and I'm trying to make a book for him. He's been told all his life that his father's family was from Spain (they have Spanish features and light skin) I've found record of his dad, Antonio Noriega born in Tucson, 1897 and Antonio's dad, Jesus Noriega with varying dates of birth and place of birth according to US census' (Sonora,MX and Tucson, AZ). The census' that say he's from Mexico, list his year of emigration as 1878. I can't find any info on his birth, or his parents or where they came from. I really want to find info for my dad that shows his family from Spain to present, but I am just dead ended. I've looked on a database in Spain, I've looked at Fami! ly Search, I've looked at Arizona state genealogy and of course Ancestry.com. Please give me some tips on where else to look. I want to finish this project for my dad asap. My family tree is listed as Noriega - Rubalcava family tree. Thank you for any advice on where else to look! Grandfather Morris/Maurice E. Fairchild was born in 1877 in Michigan. He was married in 1901 and died in 1924. This is about all I know about him. It is rumored in my family that his mother was a native American chief's daughter, but in the two census I've found on him, Morris is listed as white. I would love to learn more about Morris, as he is as far back as I can trace my last name, and any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Here are some more facts to help you out. -Born 1877 in Michigan. Both his parents are listed as born in PA in the 1920 census, and in the USA in the 1910 census. -Morris married Myrtle Hawley in 1901. Myrtle is the daughter of George and Mary Ellen Kimmy. She was born in Pa (in 1882), as were her parents. -Morris appears in the 1910 census in Columbus, Warren, PA, and the 1920 Census in Le Boeuf, Erie, PA. -He had 5 children: Louis/Lewis/Louie George (my g. grandfather), Leon M., Clarence H., Cecil R., and Arlene M. -In the 1910 census Morris had a hired man named Merl Davis. -Morris died in 1924 and is burried in Mill Village Cemetery in Le Boeuf, Erie, PA. William is said to have been born at Hacconby, which is very close to Stainfield. ...And Ann was born at Asgarby, Lincs. Two children: Mary Ann & Henry with them. .........Working backwards to 1851 census, I found Ann Ellingworth (born at Asgarby)was living with her parents, who are Anthony and Ann Sharp. She has four Ellingworth children with her here at her parent's house: Anthony 9, Susanna 3, Mary Ann 2, and Henry 3 months. William, her husband, is not there. [The last two children here are also on the '61 census above.] On the 1841 census, William Ellingworth(25) and Ann(20) appear to be living at Aslackby, Bourne. No children yet. I looked for a marriage. One came up: WILLIAM ELLINGWORTH married ANNE SHARP in 1841(2nd quart) at Sleaford, Lincs (GRO 14 973). Sleaford is north of Stainfield and Hacconby. The census that year was held on the night of 6th/7th June. You might care to check this for yourself before accepting it as proof. I have kept print-outs of each census.
