If not, I think this would be the best way of finding out who the spouse was. You can order online, but it's slightly different from ordering England & Wales certificates. Author: borstel1 Surnames: Lane, Davis Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/184/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Searching for Frank Lane and family born Sept 1893 in or around Shreveport, Louisiana. Mother: Natalie Davis, born in Virginia died around 1893. Father: Eli Lane, maybe born in Virginia, was a bridge engineer (supposedly). Grandfather: William Bennet Lane, was alive during the Civil War (I don't know why this bit of tradition has been passed down since its not that he fought or anything, just that he was alive then). Cousin: Perry Keith (Lane?), supposedly Frank spent part of his childhood with this cousin as his father traveled a lot and his mother died when he was born. Frank enlisted in the army in 1916 in Missouri and after he was discharged moved to New York City (where my grandmother was born) and lived there til his death in 1934. I have the 1930 Census for him, his army enlistment and discharge papers, and his death certificate. Suggestions? Thanks. Author: LHSwisher Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/183.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Goodness! It is never easy to trace a tree back to the 1600s, especially with a fairly common name like Baker. That can take decades. If you found it easy, perhaps what you HAVE been doing is following online trees that others have posted. Tracing your tree means verifying that everything you find is indeed your line, complete with proof and citing all your sources. It means that you have done this same verification for everything that others have posted. You won't find links going all the way back; they don't exist. And finally, because only a fraction of genealogical information is online, tracing one's tree also includes research on-site, in archives, in libraries, in microfilm, etc. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: LHSwisher Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.brick-20-walls/182.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: As dklart asked, what are you trying to find? You have a birth date and death date. It sounds as though you are expecting to enter his name in the search box and up pops everything about him. Sorry, that won't happen. 1) He was born in 1931, after the 1930 census. So he won't be on it, but his parents might, if they were married by then. So might an older sibling. 2) Remember that the majority of genealogical records are not online. You have to do it the old-fashioned way and write for it, or research in person. Of those records that are online, they're not all on Ancestry. Also, many states restrict the ability to view their vital records. If the birth record is not on Ancestry, that may be why. You might try FamilySearch Pilot Search to see if that site has any vital records for whatever state you're looking for. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you have found any census records for the family, post the census year, and the specific place, town/city, county, state. I'm not clear about what you're looking for. Is there something specific?
