She certainly did not come to Canada as Sarah. Most of the time our ancestors married within same region, religion [few exceptions] but for sure one common language to communicate in and common tradition to observe. www.torugg.org www.infoukes.com/genealogy www.ukraine.com/forums/genealogy www.surnamenavigator.org Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I looked at your public tree. Here's how this process goes: Start with what you know, work backwards and document as you go along. You can research his children, finding documents for all of them, not just your direct ancestor. You find their death, marriage and birth/bap records. This documentation identifies the family movement, and you'll also learn the maiden name of the mother. When you arrive at the first born child you're most probably in the area where his marriage took place. When you find the marriage, you find the names of his/and wife's parents, which enable you to continue searching backwards. If you've already done all these steps then post what you know, maybe someone can fill in where you missed or not looked. The brick wall is birth places of my gr-gr-grandparents. I don’t know if they married in Ireland or USA so I am trying to find some record of their deaths to maybe get other clues John Cushing (b ca 1812) Ireland (probably County Limerick) Elizabeth (Kelly) Cushing (b ca 1820) Ireland (parents William Kelly and Elizabeth Russell) I have them in the census in Troy, Rensselaer County, New York from 1840 – 1860 for sure as Cushing or Cushion. Maybe John in city directory in1867 as Cushan then they disappear. The children (Maria, Ellen/Nellie, William, John and Elizabeth/Eliza) would have been between 9 and 22 years old in 1867. Searching on Ancestry I can’t find any of them in the 1870 census but using city directories I do have the children at different locations in Troy from 1868 onward all on Third street in Troy. Daughter Maria “Cushan” in city directory from1868 – 1870 @ 212 N Third Then the city directory I found sons WILLIAM CUSHING 1872 & 1873 (214 N third Street) 1874 & 1875 Corner N 3rd and Rensselaer 1877 & 1878 – 220 North Third Other son, JOHN E CUSHING listed @ 17 N third street corner Rensselaer in 1875 to 1878. Then in 1880 I have William Cushing (age 27) living as head of household with siblings John E, (age 22), Ellen (Nellie) (age 29) and Eliza (age 21) at 282 North Third Street District 144 Maria (d 1927), Ellen/Nellie (d 1928) and Elizabeth (d 1946) were all buried in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Troy but so far I have found no record of their parents burial there. Ideas? Suggestions??

His occupation was accountant/ auctioneer. Also that he divorced in c1945. This is when he met my mother. My mother purchased her house from Frederick Chambers, along with me. the house has long since been demolished. I do not know Frederick birth date or place of birth, which is the big problem. I have built a tree on facts that I have found, of a Frederick Chambers that divorced in 1945 in London. It is the only Frederick out of hundreds that I have found to have divorced. Frederick was also the friend of my husbands grandfather, Leslie Rowles, it is very sad that we have no knowledge of his life before 1939. Which prevents me tracing his ancestry. Any help in the riddle would be of great help. Regards Nellie's girl Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
