I need to make sure that his parents are so & so. There are a ton of Joe Fowler's out there with almost the same information. You can google "Florida vital records, "South Carolina Vital records", and read how to obtain these records. You're not going to find documents on the internet, however you can find where and how to........ Have you looked for Joe Herman Fowler, B:1914 Anderson, SC in the 1920 and 1930 census? Do you know of any of his siblings? This is how you confirm whether the family you found is the correct one. If he had brothers and sisters, they'll be listed with him in those census records. 3. Try contacting the Forsyth County Library in Forsyth County, GA.  There are lots of Fowler's there and Anderson, SC is just across the border from GA.  I've always had good luck writing libraries for obituary copies when I know the exact death date.  No one in any library will scan scads of newspapers for an obituary.  You need the date, which you already have. Have you also tried "legacy.com" to confirm the information you have?  ________________________________ From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Sun, January 16, 2011 1:31:26 PM Subject: Re: [BRICK-WALLS] Fowler This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. NYKYFORUK has roots in a first name NYKYFOR/NIKIFOR -ak, -chak, -chuk, and -uk, with the most popular being -enko, -chuk and -uk. All mean "son of." They are used with Christian names, surnames, and occupational names. For example, "Petrenko" is the "son of Petro (Peter)." Peter's wife would be known as "Petrykha," and a matronymic surname would be "Petryshyn," "son of Peter's wife." Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My question is how did a Ruthenian/Ukrainian [Galicia, Austria] girl communicate with an English speaking man? Did she already know English? Most of the time our first ancestors tended to marry within same region, religion [few exceptions] but for sure one common language to communicate in and common tradition to observe. The only thing I am sure of is that Arvel Clarence Carter is the father of all four children. (my Grandfather). He was born on Jan. 11, 1899, Idaho or Utah?. Father is Parley Pratt Carter and mother is Hannah Cecelia Rasmussen. Mormons. They moved from Utah to Magrath, Canada abt. 1901 Florence Marjorie Chernow is the mother of a child born in 1922, Browning, Mt. Mary Kirkpatrick Chernow is the mother of a girl born 1923, Sundland, Ca. and a boy born 1924, San Fernando, Ca. My father was born in Browning, Mt. 1925.I am sure that all 4 of the children were put in Twin Bridges State Orphanage, Mt.abt. 1926-27. He (my father) was adopted abt. 1929-30 and his birth record was changed to the adopted parents name and his name was changed from Carter to Harris. The girl (1923) and the boy (1924) were also adopted abt. 1929-30). The oldest girl(1922) was taken from the Orphanage by Arvel. Not sure when. She was the only one n! ot adopted. I have a census record for 1930 with all four children in Twin Bridges. The information on the census record is confusing. It shows Arvel being born in Ca. (he was born in Idaho/Utah?) and some of the children's place of birth not accurate. (I am sure of their place of birth and Arvel's birth and parents and info) They have their mother's place of birth...Russia. The only information that Arvel and Mary and Florence were married and she is the mother is the birth record. The things I am not sure of is that Mary is from Russia or info on her parents. I have found some infomation that looks like both Mary and a sister Florence came from Russia to Albeta, Canada with father Tony Chernow and mother Espontemio in abt. 1909. Again...I am not sure this is the right family. Some information I have recieved says that Tony came in 1909 and children came a year or two later. I am not sure why Mary is on some records and Florence on others in such a short time span and different states, although I know for sure that Arvel's parents Parley Pratt and Hannah Carter lived in Sunland, Ca. abt. 1926-30 then moved to Berger? or Burger?, Ca. abt. 1938. The problem I am not sure of much when it comes to my Grandmother (Mary or Florence). I have only recently found Arvel and Mary (Florence) as my father's birth parents because he was adopted. He has no memory of them and did not know he had a brother and sisters and They had no knowledge of him. The older sister has passed. I helped with their reunion after 80 some years and have been trying to piece together thier birth family. This might explain why my presentation is and was so confusing and complicated. I AM CONFUSED AND IT IS COMPLICATED! Especially for a novice geneologist. Thank You again for you advice....Bea Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
