In a message dated 1/23/99 11:59:31 PM Eastern Standard Time, RFishQ@aol.com writes: << approximately how many descendents of Wm Brewster do you suppose there are? >> There must be millions of them, not all necessarily with the surname BREWSTER. Therefore, you all can imagine how hard it is to place your ancestors if the connecting link wasn't made early on. Also, there are many BREWSTERs who are descendants of the Rev. Nathaniel BREWSTER. For many years, the Rev. Nathaniel was believed to be a grandson of the Elder William of Mayflower fame. However, in July 1936, evidence was revealed by Jacobus that the Rev. Nathaniel Brewster's parents were Francis and Lucy Brewster. See "The American Genealogist and New Haven Genealogical Magazine", Volume XIII, pp. 8-21, which is a continuation of the article from Vol. XII, pp. 199-210. Other BREWSTER families migrated to America from many other countries, including Canada, Ireland, England, etc. Therefore, it is not a simple task to determine where your ancestors fit in the BREWSTER puzzle. It requires LOTS of research, research, research. Keep up the good work and don't give up. Remember, the answer is out there somewhere! Jeannie-ology for the Brewster Family Network
HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD OF THE POSSIBILITY OF COMFORT BREWSTER BEING MARRIED TO A WOMAN NAMED "ELIZABETH ABELL"?????? JIMMY
This note is in response to messages by Jimmy David Brewster [hbrewst@mail.lig.bellsouth.net] and Jeannie-ology [Brewlist@aol.com] concerning the children of Andrew Peery Brewster and Mary "Polly" Pruitt. This following information comes from S. Paul Peery, the most knowledgeable researcher of the Peery lines. The children of Andrew Peery Brewster (b. 1808 in Wythe Co., VA) and Mary "Polly" Pruitt are: Ebenezer m. Whitt Benjamin m. Louise Marrs Thomas P. m. Elizabeth Marrs Reese (died young) James S. m. Fanny S. Shrader Elizabeth George F. m. Patsy Brandy Harvey Peery m. Darthula Amandy Cameron Mary (Molly) William Hannah Andrew Crockett m. Mary J. Daniels In the Tazewell County Historical Society Newsletter of March 1998, Thomas C. Hatcher says that Andrew Peery Brewster was a quartermaster in the Confederate Army during the Civil War and that seven of his sons also served in the Confederate Army, including George who was severely wounded, Benjamin who was killed in battle, and Ebenezer who was a captain. Concerning the Andrew Brewster born on March 29, 1847, I show him to be the son of Ebenezer Brewster and Elizabeth (Hannah) Whitt. This Ebenezer is the son of Archibald T. Brewster and Elizabeth Lockhart. And this Archibald is both (1) the son of Ebenezer Brewster and Elizabeth Peery and (2) the brother of the Andrew Peery Brewster born in 1808. Jimmy David Brewster's message shows this Brewster line back to a 1William, 2William, 3William, 4Jonathan, 5Benjamin, 6William, 7Ebenezer, 8Comfort, 9Ebenezer & Elizabeth Peery. I am a descendent of Comfort through his son Thomas (bother of Ebenezer). Establishing Comfort as the son of Ebenezer Brewster and Elizabeth DeWolfe would make me very happy. I assume that Jimmy's disclaimer "Now I just have to verify it" applies to that link. It is interesting to note that in Hatcher's article, he feels the information in the 1415-page book on "The Brewster Genealogy (1566 - 1907)" written in 1908 by Emma C. Brewster Jones makes it possible to determine that the Tazewell County Brewsters are descendants of Jonathan Brewster, the eldest son of the William Brewster who came to America on the Mayflower. Sam Finley Brewster, in his book "William B. Bruster, Virginia-Tennessee, 1793 - 1853" published in 1966, adds another link, stating that the Tazewell County Brewsters descend from Benjamin, a son of Jonathan. But the links connecting this Benjamin to our Comfort is not clear. Several possibilities are presented, including the one shown in Jimmy's message: William>Jonathan>Benjamin>William>Ebenezer>Comfort. Where can I find verification of the names of Comfort's parents? And who was Comfort's wife? Steve Jamison

I am seeking descendants of John Randolph Brewster who married Julia A. Hilton in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1849. Both died at Terre Haute, IN around 1887. There were 4 children: 1. John Randolph Brewster born in Cincinnati in 1850. Died in Terre Haute abt. 1870. 2. Leonard Hilton Brewster born 1853 in Owego, NY. 3. Frank Pierce Brewster & 4. Dewitt Clinton Brewster. In 1860, Julia A. Brewster and 2 sons John & Leonard were living in St. Louis, MO with her brother, Thomas J. Hilton, while her husband, John Randolph Sr. was serving time in the Indiana State Penitentary in Clark County, Jefferson Township for Forgery. John Randolph Sr. was born in 1818 of Augustus Elliot Brewster and Lydia Willis (nee Forward) who were married in Pickney, NY in 1819. Other siblings of John Randolph were Lafayette Augustus, Augusta Sophia, Joanna Amelia and Violet Elizabeth. If any of you can assist, please email me at: polo61@ix.netcom.com. Thanks for the help. This message is in response to Jimmy Brewster's [hbrewst@mail.lig.bellsouth.net] request for information about Andrew Perry Brewster b. 29-APR-1847 in Virginia. >From information that I have collected, it appears to me that Andrew, above, is probably a son of Andrew Peery Brewster and Mary "Polly" Pruett. If any of you have information on the other eight children of Andrew & Polly, it would help Jimmy to know if his Andrew Perry b. 1847 is one of these eight unidentified children. If anyone does have that information, I would appreciate receiving the info to add to my database to help future researchers. Have been trying for several years to find positive proof on parentage of my 2nd Gr. Grandmother. Octavia Elizabeth Brewster b. 1828 in Bridgewater (Montrose), Susquehanna Co., PA. She married George Dickinson Warner in 1848 in Bridgewater, PA I have narrowed it down to Nathan Brewster & Polly Raynsford (OR) Nathan Waldo Brewster & Alice Roberts. Nathan W. is the son of Nathan & Polly. The 1830 & 1840 Census shows Nathan W. with a female approx Octavias' age. I can't find documents, birth, baptism, etc., connecting her to Nathan W & Alice. Any help is appreciated....Need to make this connection. Had several searches done and I myself have done research at the Susquehanna Historical Society and Courthouse. Wrote to the Mayflower Society and the Elder Wm Brewster Society. I guess I am part of the 'Lost Generation' mentioned the Brewster Genealogy. The line has been verified and as follows: Nathan Waldo Brewster - Alice Roberts Nathan Brewster - Polly Raynsford Nathan Brewster - Rebecca Slack Jonah Brewster - Joanna Waldo Jonathan Brewster - Mary Partridge Wrestling Brewster - Mary Holland Love Brewster - Sarah Collier Wm Brewster - Mary Thanks for your time Greg Edmiston FM1283@aol.com
I have been reading the email on other Brewster research. I will look in all my papers and I believe that I may be able to help a few. I have been trying to find the parents of Jeremiah Brewster who married Susannah Millard. He was on the census in Russell Co. VA and then went to Fentress Co. TN. If anyone has ANY information as to where I can find his parents, I would greatly appreciatee it. Thank You, Darlene Brewster-White

I'm delighted to join a Brewster listserv. What fun! I don't know anything about the Brewsters of the South or of New Jersey, but might be able to help Caroline with the Connecticut/Massachusetts connection. Caroline, do you have the Mayflower database? I think you can get it off the Mayflower web page: http://members.aol.com/calebj/mayflower.html. If not, let me know. I can't remember how I got it. Love Brewster is certainly in the Mayflower database. The Mayflower Society has done extensive work on four generations down and is working on a fifth. I don't have time to poke around in it for you right now, but I will later. My problem is that the Brewster I'm stuck on is fifth or sixth generation down. Timothy Seymour Brewster was born in June 6, 1803. Blenheim, Schoharie County, NY, of the Connecticut Brewsters. His parents were from the Hartford area. His mother was Lydia Morgan (and I have her line quite a ways back), but nobody knows his father's name. His father apparently died when Timothy was an infant and his mother remarried a Daniel Belden, and they moved to Ohio. I've conversed with the town historian in Blenheim, but they are quite stuck, too. There are many Brewsters there, including a Brewster vault at the cemetary, but she can't find any records of who is buried there. She's looking for a record of Lydia selling the mill Timothy's dad ran before she moved to Ohio. Maybe it will have his name. Census records only show a John Brewster, who survived past the date Timothy's dad would have died. Don't know where to go from here. Family lore says we are descended from William Brewster of the Mayflower, but if I can't find this missing link, I can't get there. Have fun, folks. We all must be detectives at heart to be in this game. CAROL HOSLER, Holbrook, Arizona
