Alice Brevard (Ewing) Walker (1850-1914) was: The wife of John Read Walker (1846-1900); The daughter of Judge Ephraim Brevard Ewing and Elizabeth Ann (Allen) Ewing; The granddaughter of Rev. Finis Ewing and Margaret Lee "Peggy" (Davidson) Ewing; The great-granddaughter of Gen. William Lee Davidson and Mary (Brevard) Davidson; The great-great-granddaughter of John Brevard and Jane (McWhorter) Brevard; The great-great-great-granddaughter of Jean "John" Brevard and Mary Katherine (McKnitt) Brevard. There is a death certificate from Jackson County for Alice Brevard Ewing Walker in the Missouri Death Certificate Database (http://www.sos.mo.gov/records/archives/archivesdb/deathcertificates). Gen. Davidson was killed on 1 February 1781 at the Battle of Cowan's Ford on the Catawba River in northwestern Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, where the North Carolina militia under Gen. Davidson attempted to slow or halt a crossing by a British force under Lord Cornwallis. Some accounts name Alice's husband, John Read Walker, as John Read Samuel Walker. According to a Yale College Class of 1868 biographical sketch published in 1914, the late John Read Walker, the youngest son of Anthony Smith Walker and Mary (Read) Walker, was a descendant of Robert Read, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. The Yale College Class of 1868 biographical sketch also noted that John Read Walker and Alice Brevard (Ewing) Walker, who married on 13 October1880 at Jefferson City [Cole County], Missouri, had four children: Alice Ewing Walker, born 29 July 1881, Jefferson City, Missouri (d. 14 September 1897); John Read Walker, Jr., born 31 December 1882, Boonville [Cooper County], Missouri; Ewing Addison Walker, born 16 December 1885, Booneville, Missouri; Ephraim Brevard Walker, born 17 November 1893, Booneville, Missouri. When the Yale College Class of 1868 biographical sketch of John Read Walker was written, son John Read Walker, Jr., was reported as living in Washington, DC, where he was President [and founder] of the Lumberman's Bureau. Sons Ewing Addison Walker and Ephraim Brevard Walker were reported to be engaged in the lumber business in Hattiesburg [Forest County], Mississippi. The Informant named on Alice Brevard Ewing Walker's Missouri Certificate of Death was John R. Walker of Washington, DC.
