Bill According to my records [much of it unproven by me] the Henry THOMAS and Andrew THOMAS that you reference are first cousins, but on the FIKE side. My 2GGF Henry THOMAS [1826-1910] is the son of Henry THOMAS sr & Rebecca FIKE. Andrew THOMAS is the son of Jacob Michael THOMAS & Mary FIKE. I have ten children for Jacob FEICK & Eve Moyer, and have six of their children marrying THOMASes: ElizabethFIKE +Abraham THOMAS, son of George Henry THOMAS & Veronica SAYLOR JacobFIKE, jr Catherine "Katy" THOMAS, daughter of Alexander THOMAS &Elizabeth MEYER Mary FIKE +JacobMichael THOMAS, son of Michael THOMAS & Magdelena MAUST CatherineFIKE +Jacob A. THOMAS, son of Alexander THOMAS & Elizabeth MEYER Rebecca FIKE+Henry THOMAS, sr, son of Alexander THOMAS & Elizabeth MEYER Abraham FIKE +Mary"Polly" THOMAS, daughter of Alexander THOMAS & Elizabeth MEYER My 3GGF Henry THOMAS is the son of Alexander THOMAS & Elizabeth MEYER. My 4GGF Alexander THOMAS is the son of Alexander THOMAS & Catherine Elizabeth BASHORE. So the Henry and Andrew that you reference are second cousins on the THOMAS side. WVa...Thomas Tom: I'm glad you responded to this. You may be able to fill in a blank in my Thomas family tree. Charles Henry Thomas was the son of Henry Thomas and Eliza Kelly. According to the "History of West Virginia, Old & New", Henry was first cousin of Andrew Thomas, father of Rev. Jeremiah Thomas. Andrew was the son of Jacob M. Thomas, a Brethren pastor. Jacob M. Thomas was the son of Michael Thomas and Magdalena Maust. So Henry would need to be a son of one of the brothers of Jacob M. Thomas. My problem is I don't know which brother. Do you have the answer to that? Bill Thomas -----Original Message----- From: Thom Sent: Thursday, October 24, 2013 7:28 PM To: brethren@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [BRE] Monongalia Co. WVa It would take me awhile to dig up the precise info, but the Civil War Pension file of my 2GGF Andrew Jackson GLOVER had a number of affidavits with addresses at iron works in Monongalia and also ironworks in PA. My recollection is that one or more of these affidavits were from my GGF Charles Henry Thomas [his son-in-law, but not identified as such]. I kept saying to myself "I never knew they lived there [the iron works]". Andrew Jackson GLOVER is buried at Keeler Glade Cemetery in Garrett Co, MD, but Keeler Glade Church [which I think (not sure) is Brethren] is a hundred yards or more away at the foot of the hill and is in Preston Co, WV. My GGPs Charles THOMAS & Sciota "Sally" GLOVER are buried at Shady Grove Cemetery in Preston and that is definitely Brethren. WVa I don't post here too often as I have not been able to prove that my ancestors were Brethren but I suspect that some were. I also know that they were following the iron ore furnace work from the 1820's or so onward. They were in the northern Shenandoah Valley in the early 1800's. Eventually coming into Monongalia Co along the Cheat River. Do any of you know much about others who were in this area, who were doing the same? Thom: So Henry is tied to the Alexander Jr. line. That clears things up. By the way, Abraham Thomas married to Elizabeth Fike, is the son of Michael Thomas and Magdalena Maust. The Abraham Thomas s/o George Thomas & Veronica Seiler, is my ggggrandfather. He was married to Julia Gindlesperger, and both are buried next to my gggrandfather, ggrandfather, and grandfather (and their spouses) in the same row in Blough Mennonite Church Cemetery in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County (it's our family plot). George & Veronica are buried on their farm, also in Conemaugh Township, and not far from Blough Mennonite Church.
