    1. Re: [BRE] Becker family(s?) of Montgomery County, Ohio

    3. Thanks, Wayne. I knew Gale has done some work on the Montgomery County Beckers. He has told me that someone needs to work them out, but he doesn't have time. Living in New England, I don't really have ready access to the necessary records (if they exist). It is feasible that John and Peter are related. I do have a Peter Becker (1740-1803) listed as John's (1758-1824) older brother, but have very little information on him, and am not even certain that this is a correct entry in my database. The Henry Becker bio-sketch says John was born in Bedford County, which was impossible, since Bedford County was not formed from Cumberland County until 1771. Cumberland County, in turn, had been formed from Lancaster County in 1750. The sketch goes on to say that John had lived for a while in Lancaster County. Either the family moved back to east to Lancaster County for a period of time, or the writer was confused on the history of the area. For that matter, it is doubtful that John was born in "Bedford County," because the first white birth recorded within the bounds of that county was 1759. In all probability John was born in Lancaster County. We do know that John's wife, Anna Stauffer Eshelmaan, was born in Rapho Twp, Lancaster County. The bio-sketch also lists Henry's father, John Jr, as having been born 1791 in Bedford County which is possible, although I am told there is a family group sheet in the Martinsburg Library which lists him and his older sister as being born in Lancaster County. This needs to be checked out. In any case, John and Anna's fourth child, David (b. Nov 1795), and succeeding children have all been listed as being born in Somerset County - which is possible since Somerset was formed from Bedford County in April 1795. The presence of a family group sheet in the Martinsburg Library does hint that there could have been a tie with Morrison's Cove.
