    3. Dear Donna, Elizabeth Martin and her husband Daniel Sears left Sangamon County, IL, in 1830 after the census was taken. They moved with other Sears families to Scottville Township in Macoupin County, IL. The Daniel Sears family stayed in Macoupin until 1836, after which they moved to Iowa. Daniel was the son of Samuel Sears who lived in Logan County, KY, in 1810, with eight males and four females. In the census his name was spelled "Searse." He lived in the part of Logan County which later became Simpson County. This part of Kentucky, known as Drakes Creek, had a large Brethren population consisting of outcasts from North Carolina whose leaders were Universalists (Restitutionists) along with being Brethren. These Kentucky Brethren also became outcasts around 1830 when they packed up and moved northward to Illinois and Missouri and eventually Iowa. Elder David Martin was one of the leaders of the original movement in the Carolinas. Perhaps he was an ancestor of your Elizabeth Martin. Daniel Sears 26 May 1817 Logan Co, KY. They lived also in Sangamon Co, Ill, Howard Co, MO, Jefferson Co, IA as well as Decatur Co, IA. In Jefferson Co, IA they are members of the Brethren Church in Liberty Twp. In Decatur Co, they were members of the Franklin Brethren Church and they are buried in the Franklin Cemetery. Would there have been an Elder Martin in KY around 1817 who had been in NC before that? I'm really stretching to try to figure this out. All records in court house in Decatur Co were destroyed in 1880 so we have no will, land records there. Court house records in Logan Co KY were also destroyed so I'm told. There is an index that states they were married but no parents names. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Donna Schmidt
