Phil, I was able to find your site through Donna; so I am send along a copy to you on this list. Possibly someone will be able to help somemore with the Elias and Margaret RITTER family. Chocy Donna, I was glad to hear from you and that you were still at the same e-mail address. Thank you for the Ritter Family DNA Project Results page. I really enjoyed it and also going over some of Phil's other pages. Unfortunately, I do not know any RITTER male direct lines to my family; but this project sure would help me, if I did. My father's mother was Maud Elizabeth RITTER born in Illinois in 1880. Her father, Jacob Henry RITTER, was the son of Jacob and Elizabeth (GOCHENOUR) RITTER, both born in Virginia. Jacob's parents and my third great grandparents, were both RITTERs, both born in Virginia and both born in 1790. They were Stephen A. and Mary "Polly" (RITTER) RITTER. Stephen sold all his property (1835) in Virginia moving to Licking County, Ohio where he and John BELL are credited as founders of St. Louisville (1837) which is located just north of Newark on Route No. 13. Stephen owned the whole north side of St. Louisville running a stageline, tavern and inn, as well as, farming. They had 6 boy and 3 girls. Adam and John RITTER were newly married also farmed in the area. I have not been able to prove the parents of Stephen A. RITTER; but I do have proof of Mary "Polly" RITTER's parents and my fourth great grandparents who were Henry and Eleanor "Nellie" (COALE) RITTER of Frederick County, Virginia. So, as you can see I have deep roots in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia as my grandmother Elizabeth (GOCHENOUR) RITTER is a direct line to Jost HITE through my grandparents Jacob and Magdalena (HITE) CHRISMAN. At any rate, I have spent loads of time researching these families and my RITTERs have been very hard to sort out. Skipping over and back to my fourth great grandfather, Henry RITTER which led me to you. As you probably know, there is an Elias RITTER of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania who has a will recorded in Frederick County, Virginia. However, I have never been able to find a copy of the will recorded there. I only know that it was because only one abstract book that I have ever seen includes Elias RITTER's will which stated that he was from Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. I have never been able to locate him in that Pennsylvania county, so I thought perhaps the compiler made an error and it should have been Westmoreland County, Virginia. Well, I still do not know; but from what I see on the internet it probably was Pennsylvania. This Elias RITTER had a wife Margaret, as well as one of his daughters names was Margaret. I then found on a website where someone, though not proved, was naming Margaret RITTER the wife of William CARPER as the daughter of this Elias RITTER. Now this becomes very interesting because I have been trying to find out which RITTER family of the area this Margaret belonged plus William and Margaret (RITTER) CARPER were close neighbors and married at about the same time as my grandparents, Henry and "Nellie" (COALE) RITTER. While I believe that someone in Elias RITTER's will lived in Frederick County, Virginia, I don't know who since his children were all named like the other RITTERs of the county aka Catherine, John, Jacob and so forth. I always thought it possible that Margaret (RITTER) CARPER was Henry RITTER's sister. But I do not know; however, Henry did have a daughter named Margaret; but Elias and Margaret RITTER did not have a son named Henry. Anyhow, this is probably more than you wanted to know; but it shows you why I am so interested in the RITTER DNA Project Results and feel sorry that I don't know any direct males from my RITTER line which again could prove confusing since my line is a double RITTER from the same place and in the same year!
