Regarding John Ritter, his obituary noted that he was Brethren (it probably said "Dunkard"). I can no longer find my copy of that obituary. Does anyone have a copy that they are willing to post? According to the y-chromosome of a descendant, the John Ritter who settled in St. Joseph Co., Indiana was not paternally related to my ancestor John Ritter (who settled in Tuscarawas, Ohio) . Nor was the St. Joseph John Ritter (who was born in North Carolina) paternally related to the NC Jesse Ritter who has a large number of descendants throughout the southern states (e.g. Tex Ritter). We have found no matches to the St. Joseph John Ritter among any of the other Ritters who have tested their y-chromosome and the origin of the NC/St. Joseph John Ritter family remains something of a mystery. My John Ritter has matched a descendant of Hans George Ritter, who was an early settler of Berks Co., PA and gave money to the Brethren (i.e. "Society of Germans, commonly called first day or Sunday Dunkers") in his 1760 will. We're still trying to find out if Hans George Ritter (who settled in Exeter) might be related to Daniel Ritter, who came with Peter Becker, was at the first love feast, and settled in Oley (adjacent to Exeter towship).
