A famous Schantz of Somerset County is Joseph Schantz, who was Amish. He is known more by his English pronounced name. Joseph Johns, the founder of Johnstown, PA. Joseph's family is in Amish & Amish Mennonite Genealogy. Many Amish became Dunkard's, so Joseph may be a starting point. Joseph was a neighbor of a number of Dunkard's when he lived in Brothersvalley Township, prior to coming north to the Johnstown area.
