I'm not much help - although my wife is a descendant of Michael Danner (dau Anna, married Stephen Petri), and I pastored the Beaver Dam Church, in Frederick Co MD -where Elder Jacob Danner came (well, Israel Creek, but that was really the origin of Beaver Dam - and the Monocacy Road). As such, I have been very interested in the Danner family. I admit, I had not really connected the Donner Party to the Danner family. I do not have proof on what I presented. Like you, I made the connection between George and Samuel in Muhlenberg Co (I didn't know George was in Rowan -was Samuel there also?) Information that I have indicates that Elder Jacob Danner had sons George and Samuel, and neither stayed in Maryland. Beaver Dam was a major center for migration south, to the Carolinas (which became a source for migration to Kentucky) and Virginia. I had closer proof connecting Samuel to Jacob, so I tied the two together there in Muhlenberg Co KY. In searching on them (on the internet, esp), I found several sources who did tie the two together, and gave George as a son of Jacob, so I presented it that way. So, they came to Jessamine Co KY. The Brethren who I found that went there came from the Antietam area of Maryland (other side of the Blue Ridge Mountains). As I understand, it was a direct migration from Maryland. I had not seen Carolina people there, now I'll have to look further in their history. Now - as to the Tanners - The German could be pronounce either Danner - Donner - or Tanner. (Grandpa tried to get me to learn Pennsylvania Dutch, I didn't! - I think he was disappointed.) The preacher, John Tanner, who came to Tate's Creek, near Boones Station and was a preacher there with George Boone - I have not made a direct connection of him with our Danner family. There were a couple Johns - he could possibly be a Danner (did Michael Danner have a brother, John?). I added him, because of the Brethren connection at the Tate's Creek Church. I was hoping someone might help me with him. The stories connected to him, could easily have been one of the frontier Brethren. I don't want to publish a book with incorrect information - that's partially why I made the intro statement - I haven't proved these families. Merle C Rummel
Rev John Tanner born abt 1732 in Chesterfield Virginia and died in 1812 in Cape Giardeau Missour was my GGGgrandfather.. This is some info on him: His son was John Tanner who was captured by the Indians. was Baptist minister and a close associate of James Rucker. born in Va, before 1760 moved to NC, went to KY about 1780 lived in Madison, Woodford, Boone, Shelby, and Caldwell Counties in KY had wills in Missouri and in KY John Tanner was a Baptist preacher in Virginia, at a time when the law was that no ministers except those of the Church of England werepermitted to preach or teach publicly or privately. He was jailed atleast twice for preaching without a license. A monument was erected onthe site of the jail in 1925 to commemorate John Tanner and 5 otherjailed preachers. That monument is still there! John Tanner was alsoshot in the leg by a man who was irate that the Reverend had baptized hiswife. There is some confusion about the order and number of John'swives. Wife one may have been Dorcas or Susannah; his second wife (whosigned deeds as his wife until 1791) was Rachel Cain. He wed SallyRucker in July, 1792. The Rev. John Tanner died in 1812, Cape Girardeau,Missouri, after surviving the massive earthquake and moving away from theruins of the town. Book written about John Tanner: "The Family of Rev. John Tanner--BaptistPreacher" by Marguerite Hussey (now deceased) Also mentioned in Sudie Rucker Woods' book and mentioned in a history onbaptist ministers. Also mentioned in the Lyman Draper papers at University of Wisconsin. 1770-jailed with 6 other men for preaching (William Webber, JosephAnthony, Augustin Eastin, John Weatherford, Jeremiah Walker, & DavidTinsley) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Merle C Rummel" <cliff@rtkonline.com> To: <brethren@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 18, 2008 8:03 PM Subject: Re: [BRE] Donner/Danner/Tanner > >> I have researched the family for a number of years as I am a >> Donner descendant.
