Hello Merle, I've just read your e-mail, Reference your research "earliest Kentucky." 1. I have collateral lines in Cape Gireadeau, Mo. which may help other researchers. 2. Do you know surnames of families "refused" by "Annual Meeting"? 3. Since I "wandered" around before contact with your Brethren records, I have found Francis Stump records very sparse, but I do have documented Francis Stump records in Bedford, Fayette and Somerset Counties, Pennsylvania. I have very clear Stump records from my husband and his ancestors back to about the 1880s - including Francis (The Elder) - land transactions and his will - after that they have all been Methodist. So far, 1. No record of his marriage to Rachel Martin, but it does seem to be generally accepted. Do have copy of her marriage (after Francis death) to Philip Kimmel. 2. No official record of David Washabaugh's name change to David Stump, but do have record of his marriage - 1811 - as David Stump - to Catharine Ripple. Do have many records of her Ripple family. David and Catharine Ripple Stump had a son, named Francis. No record of his marriage, but census records show him with a 5-year old son, emigrating to Edgar County, Ill. No record of a mother of that son. Record in Edgar County, Ill. of that Francis' marriage to a Penelope Wood. Complete records of their children down to my son - last male of the line. I have set out the gist of my husband's earliest ancestors. If you have any comments, I will appreciate them. Thanks so much for your help, Liz Stump ----- Original Message ---- From: Merle C Rummel <cliff@rtkonline.com> To: brethren@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, February 29, 2008 6:58:40 AM Subject: Re: [BRE] Early brethren in Cape Girardeua & Bollinger Co's. MO This is part of what I'm finding in earliest Kentucky - not all the Brethren moved on to Illinois-Missouri. Many stayed local - but not as Brethren, since Annual Meeting had refused them. I do find churches (Baptist or Methodist, usually) with the family names of known Brethren who were there -back before 1800. I wish I was able to trace these families in each known church area.
