    1. [BRE] John S Brubaker sighting; also Elizabeth Brubaker Brubaker
    2. In my great-grandpa's scrapbook I find an obituary for John Brubaker. The newspaper's name is not given, nor is it dated; however, it is most likely from the Flora, Indiana, local newspaper. Brethren Encyclopedia says he was born 3/10/1854 and died 2/5/1912. Presumably this newspaper clipping is from 1912. "DEATH ELDER JOHN BRUBAKER IN CALIFORNIA; LIFE HISTORY "Elder John S Brubaker died at his home in Glendora, California, February 15th, after a three weeks' illness of heart trouble at the age of 58 years. Mr. Brubaker was born in Preble county, Ohio, but come [sic] with his parents to Ervin township, Howard county [Indiana] when four years old and resided there until 18 years ago, when he located in California. He was united in marriage January 18, 1877, to Elizabeth Brubaker, daughter of Mr and Mrs George Brubaker of Western Howard county. She died May 1st, 1879, leaving a small child which died soon after. On August 1st, 1880, he led to the altar Miss Emma Fisher of Flora [Indiana]. The Glendora paper pays the following tribute to his memory. He united with the Church of the Brethren when twenty-four years of age and entered the ministry four years later; since then his life being wholly consecrated to the cause of christianity and the welfare of his fellowmen. "Eighteen years ago he moved his family to California, for the past ten years residing in Glendora, where he has become immensely wealthy. He assisted in organizing the Brethren church in Glendora and became its first pastor. He was director of the First Savings Bank and also of the Glendora Light & Fuel Co., and an honored trustee of the Lordsburg college. He enjoyed the distinction and honor of being first and only mayor of Glendora. Besides enjoying the confidence of the people he has proven himself able, intelligent and broadminded in his views. "He leaves a wife and seven children, all of whom reside in Los Angeles county. They are Roy, Omer and Leland Brubaker, Mrs Laura Trostle and Mrs Lorie Detter and Vera and Veda, one child having preceded him to the great beyond. "The funeral services were held at 10 o'clock a.m., Wednesday, February 7, at the Glendora Brethren church conducted by Elder W F England, assisted by D L Miller. "The business houses were all closed as a mark of respect. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Banked about the casket they were typical of the purity of the life now stilled in death." I hope somebody on the list is following these Brubakers. My granddaughter recently married a Brubaker whose roots are in Virginia, and I'm trying to find a Brethren connection. Happy hunting.
