I need to address one matter brought to my attention, is there any evidence that Capt. Henry Rhoads' wife, Elizabeth had the maiden name "Stoner"? Austin Cooper in "Two Centuries of Brothersvalley; Church of the Brethren, 1672-1762." Westminster, MD: Times, Inc., 1962, page 167 wrote Henry's wife was Elizabeth Stoner, daughter of Elder John Stoner of the Pipe Creek Church, Frederick Co, MD, citing a marriage in the "Pleasant View Records." Where are these records Austin refers too? To my knowledge no one has been able to find them. I believe Austin was a pastor at that congregation, so I assumed he had seen them. Alvin L Rhods, in "Genealogies of Rhoads-Scott and Related Families," Decorah, IA: Anundsen Pub Co, 1987 on pages 2-4, wrote: Henry m.(1) 19 Oct 1760 to Elizabeth Stoner, d/o Christian Stoner and Elizabeth of Pipe Creek MD. I received an email from Alvin in Dec 2005 in which Alvin stated he now doubts the father was Christian. Richard R. Weber, author of "Stoner Brethren: A History of John Stoner (ca 1705-1769) and His Descendants." Columbia, MD: RR Weber, 1993. emailed me Mar 2008, "Austin's assertions do not constitute evidence, except where they actually present valid evidence. I believe that Cooper is utterly wrong regarding Elizabeth Stoner's ancestry (and many other matters)." He continued, "I asked Cooper personally for his evidence regarding Elizabeth Stoner's ancestry. He dug up a tiny pocket notebook, and said that so-and-so told him in 1947 (or so). That is meaningless." Richard is the first person, and only person, I'm aware of who actually spoke with Austin Cooper and asked Cooper what his evidence was. Apparently Mr. Cooper was not citing from church records, as he wrote. So, as anybody seen any evidence to support the maiden name of Elizabeth, other than hearsay? Regards, Glen Swartz P.S. Thank you Richard for your insight. -------------------------- 3/21/2008, GlSwartz writes: Children of Henry Rhoads and Catherina (Rheinhardt) are: 1. Capt.
