Glen, Also to Bill Thomas: I'm still trying to find the Penna. background of my husband's ancestor, Francis Stump. Would you mind telling me any more "suspicions" you have about Francis Stump and the two John Stumps? Is there anything to make you think Francis could be a brother of either one -- such as dates - or anything else? Much of the oldest records we have been able to find have definitely connected my deceased husband's Francis to Johann Julian and the Jacob who married Elizabeth Becker. Are there Brethren records I might be able to access that might show some information? Francis died in Muhlenberg County Kentucky in 1801. He may have married Rachel Martin in Penna. before going south. Francis 'could' have been born around the 1748 date - perhaps closer to Philadelphia, and come from a Brethren group prior to your 1748 given date. Such as his becoming a member of Brethren group - or marrying Rachel? I do appreciate all the things I learn from people working in Somerset County PA. I've also learned much of Conrad Beissel and Ephrata. Any suggestions either, or both, of you might suggest to me will certainly be welcome. I have also run into connections between the two families. I have one Peter Newcomer, born 1753 in Manor Twp, Lancaster Co, PA. He was Mennonite, and later settled in Tyrone Twp, Fayette Co, PA. His son Christian, married about 1814 to Mary Newmyer, who was the granddaughter of Jacob. Based on proximity, I'd imagine Wolf and Peter were probably related. I have suspected that Francis Stump and John Stump of Somerset County had some connection to the family of John Stump of Leacock Township. John's father was Johann Julian Stump, who had ties to Alexander Mack in Europe. Another son of Johann Julian was Jacob Stump who married Elizabeth Becker. John Stump of Leacock was associated with Conrad Beissel and Ephrata. Anyway, one of the executors of John Stump was Wolf Newcomer. Wolf Newcomer was also the guardian of his son Peter Stump. The Will is dated 1748, and the Orphans Court record is 1754. Newcomer and Newmyer seem very close. Recall a John Stump witness the property sale of Jacob Newmyer. The comment gave a little more focus and I found a number of further connections between the two families and at least one more probable child of Jacob. One would assume Rhoads and Newmayer had some form of association. John Stump was a witness on the sale transaction. (Bill Thomas) **************It's Tax Time!
