    3. Thanks - this confirms data ****************************** > 1. 1683 Germans to Germantown, Phila. Suburb -this - date of Mennonite migration to New World - settlement became known as "German" town - i.e. Germantown PA ******************************* > Other surnames taken from land records and some marriage records - all in Muhlenberg Co. KY during the tenure of Elder Francis Stump: Jacob Rhoads; D. Kimmel (apparent male married C. HUNSACKER) numerous spellings such as Hunsinger, etc.; Geo. Hunsaker (perhaps one named in Francis' Will). > a few of the given names of Brethren in the Muhlenberg Co area - according to Rolland Flory - there were 3 regions (churches) of Brethren ******************************** > Many more Ripples, Willis, Washabaughs (no indication they were Brethren); Roth (assumed to be Rhoads); Barbara (assumed daughter of Elder Francis Stump married a Frampton); > Ripple - could be transliteration of Brethren family - Ruble - Ribble - known elsewhere ******************************* > The first land purchase of Elder Francis Stump was from a Rhoads > Captain Henry Rhoads settled first (1784) at the "Falls of the Green" River - now Vienna KY - lost it due to faulty land titles (Solomon Rhoads - brother - was a surveyor/lawyer) - moved south on Pond River and took 2500 Acre Military Grant - Bremen and Sacramento KY - the "Dutch Settlement" (I suspect I have this date somewhere.) ********************************* > My feeling is that the Ripples and Washabaughs - (married to Stump family members) were not Brethren - or they left the Brethren beliefs when they emigrated to Edgar and Clark Counties, Illinois. My husband's records of the blood line descent from David (Washabaugh) Stump and wife Catharine Ripple are quite complete. There are many related collateral lines which show no association with Brethren records. > What is the time of this migration? - the "Revival" - "Reformation" - the Brethren acceptance of the Campbellite Christian Church beliefs occurred between 1810 and early 1820s. The Disciples of Christ Churches that resulted, were formed mostly closer to 1840. Merle C Rummel
