    1. [BRE] Henry Rhoads, ca. 1712-1774 - update
    2. It appears time to offer an update on the family of Henry Rhoads and Catharina (Rheinhardt). Questions are welcome, corrections if you have any. Some of my conclusions differ from most of what I've seen in print, and I figured with the internet it was best to keep a free flow of information. I have more notes and documentation, but it's not going to fit in an email. I don't have a lot of narrative, as the first priority is to ensure the family is correctly assembled. Henry Rhoads [Sr] was born abt. 1712 pr, Germany, and died 07 Apr 1774 Stonycreek Twp, Bedford (Somerset) Co, PA. He m. Catherina (Rheinhardt) abt. 1738 pr, PA. She was born abt. 1717 pr, Germany, and died aft. 1775 in Stonycreek Twp, Bedford (Somerset) Co, PA. My interpretation of Cooper, and Rhods, p1, is Henry Sr, was the son of Heinrich Roth (pr, b. Germany) and Catherine Cauble, but I've found nothing to support this. Likewise I've found nothing to support the maiden name of Henry, Sr.'s wife Catherina. Children of Henry Rhoads and Catherina (Rheinhardt) are: 1. Capt. Henry Rhoads, b. 05 Jun 1739, ps, Germantown, PA; d. 06 Mar 1814, Browder, Muhlenberg Co, KY; m.(1) Elizabeth Stoner, 09 Oct 1760, Pleasant View Church, Burkittsville, Frederick Co, MD; b. 25 Mar 1744, pr, Frederick (then Prince George's) Co, MD d/o Elder John Stoner; d. 02 Oct 1807, Browder, Muhlenberg Co, KY; m. Michael Sells, abt. 1766; b. abt. 1739; d. abt. 1814, Bedford Twp, Bedford Co, PA. 3. Catherine Rhoads, b. abt. 1743, PA; d. abt. 1782, Bedford Co, PA; m. The one library that would send a copy via, interlibrary loan was lost by the U.S. Post Office. Her first book was good and I wanted to see what she wrote in her update. She does solid research and her citations are well above the norm. Engel, Marie Leighty. "Henry Rhoads Senr: immigrant and his earliest descendants." Salisbury, MD: M.L. Engel, 1997. 2. I have more on the descendants of Daniel Rhoads - gathered from various sources. Thought this source might also be helpful. He might, however, have d. in Edgar Co., Illinois just over the State Line & been bur. in Vigo Co., Ind. In contradiction, the sold. is said to have d. in Edgar Co., Illinois, & bur. in Ogden Cem. This man is said to have been from Mass. & served in Mass., Capt. Samuel Payson, Col. John Grafton; later Col. Joseph Read. This disagrees completely with the service record below, which I found in the pens. file. I think that there were likely two men of the same name. MRW.). Enl.
