First, I would like to ask a quick question of everyone. I'm interested in hearing from anyone who had family in 1840 WashingtonCo, IN. WashingtonCo may be my key to solving my mystery. Merle, I first need to clear up some confusion....... Tobias& Jacob Lybrook - 1 grant dated 1-1824, Twp 16N, R 6W, Sec 21 [THO] I was listing all the Millers who had land grants so the above means Tobias MILLER & Jacob Lybrook were granted land in partnership. You wrote: "Col John MIller married Nancy Capper - 1 Jan 1800 in Franklin Co VA - from family informations they had 6 children: Martin (1802); John (1805); Thomas (1807); Elizabeth (1808); Mary 1811); and Benjamin (1815). " This "marriage" is a major problem for me. I have searched several reliable dbases [familysearch, ancestry, etc] and can find no source for this marriage anywhere. There are 3 recorded marriages for the Caper/Capper family in FranklinCo - Margaret md 1799, Thomas md 1799 and Samuel md 1806. There are 4 John Millers md in FranklinCo, VA - to Phebe McClure 1792, Hester Brower 1798, Margaret Turpin 1789 and Susannah Scott 1789. Perhaps someone found the Samuel Capper in the 1830 Franklin, IN census and made an assumption he was the Samuel of Franklin, VA. But he wasn't. Samuel in IN was born 1790-1800 and had 4 kids under 10. Samuel of VA had to be born before 1786 [md 1806] and would likely have had many kids over 10. In 1840 Sam is in ParkeCo and he's still 30-40, born 1800-1810. This implies he was a cusp baby and born c1800. More evidence he's not Sam of VA. So unless someone can provide a reliable source for this marriage, it is [to me] just an error on someone's part that has been accepted as fact over time. If I'm correct, Col. John can no longer be tied to Franklin, VA or any part of VA. The best evidence I have so far is that Col. John was born in MD [his 1850 census] or perhaps PA. From one of Merle's pages comes the following: "The 1839 letter by Elizabeth, daughter of Col. John, says that a brother of her father, "Uncle Martin and his son David", were come visiting from Pennsylvania. [I don't believe the rest of the paragraph as follows was part of Elizabeth's letter] Col. John was bound out to someone in Pennsylvania while still a minor. (The Martin Miller family of Penn Valley, Center Co PA, needs to be investigated further. The Center Co History says they moved there soon following the Revolutionary War. John Miller, presumeably of this family, came to the Bullskin Church, Clermont Co OH, about 1800.)" I agree with Merle's list of Col. John's kids. I simply believe he had more [older] kids based on the following censi: 1820 United States Federal Census Name: John Millar Township: Bath County: Franklin State: Indiana Enumeration Date: August 7, 1820 Free White Males - Under 10: 1 [Benjamin] Free White Males - 10 thru 15: 2 [John and Martin] Free White Males - 16 thru 25: 1 [who???? - my William?] Free White Males - 45 and over: 1 [Col John bn bef 1775] Free White Females - Under 10: 1 [Elizabeth] Free White Females - 10 thru 15: 1 Free White Females - 16 thru 25: 1 [bn 1795-1804] Free White Females - 26 thru 44: 1 [bn 1776-1794] Free White Females - 45 and over: 1 [Nancy bn bef 1775] Number of Persons - Engaged in Agriculture: 1 Free White Persons - Under 16: 5 Free White Persons - Over 25: 3 Total Free White Persons: 10 Total All Persons - White, Slaves, Colored, Other: 10 1830 United States Federal Census Name: John Miller Senior [image does not show Senr.
