    3. Well, "muddy the waters" it is! This age creates a calculated birth date of 3 Mar 1819, which doesn't match any other source that I know of. Maybe there is a transcription mistake in the Gospel Messenger obit? All kidding aside, it's good to have another source. Thanks, Dennis, for sending that in. This establishes the death date pretty definitively as 16 May 1896. Now, if we could just resolve the birth date...
