This does not appear to be the Jacob Burkett family of Allegheny Township, Somerset County. Jacob's children are found in Allegheny Township or Londonderry Township, Bedford County. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of FamilyHart Sent: Thursday, May 19, 2011 9:38 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [BRE] Vintage Maps...Burkhart's The Stony Creek Burkets in Somerset County, PA were my wife's family. I found a Burkett family in Berks County that seems to be a good fit. Jacob of Allegheny was a Rev. War Vet, and there was a Jacob Burkett in the Berks County war records. Of course this would tend to eliminate an early German Baptist connection. I ask this question out of curiosity because my Shaffer family seems to have been so influenced by the German Baptists even before becoming members in Wayne County, Ohio. They drop out of Lutheran Church Baptismal records very early in the 1800's even though the family was still living in the same place. According to the records of the Berlin Reformed/Lutheran Church the Shaffers, Cohenours and Burkharts/Burketts witnessed the baptism of each other's children: So these families must have been Lutheran or Reformed before 1800. (My grandfather claimed they were Lutheran.) Jonathan, parents John Schafer and Catherine Born 10 September 1788 Baptized 17 Nov 1788, witnesses Jacob Borckfard and Elizabeth Samuel, parents Jacob Boochard, Elizabeth, Born 10 Apr 1790, Baptized 4 Jul 1790, witnesses John Shaffer, Catherine John, parents John Jacob Burkhard, Elizabeth, Born 20 Jan 1795 Baptized (no date) witnesses John Shafer, Susanna Elizabeth, parents Christian Lauchnour, Catherine, Born 29 Nov 1798, Baptized 24 Apr 1799, witnesses, John Shafer, Susanna This may not be of interest to you, but maybe others out there may have more information.
