Christian Family Companion March 21, 1871 page 191 Brother Henry: We had a terrible fire here on Saturday, March 4th. John M. Rhodes’ barn burned down, with all his stock: 9 head of horses, 12 head of horn cattle, 28 sheep and dog and cat, nothing living escaped but 4 small pigs and a few chickens. Most all his grain of three years raising, and many farm implements were destroyed. The loss is estimated at $300o, without the barn, which belongs to Adam Fouse, and which was insured at $1400. The cause of the fire is a mystery. John W. Brumbaugh. Clover Creek, PA
