Hello, I just joined this list after receiving some information from some kind soul on another list. I have searched your archives and did not find any mention of the ancestor I am seeking. The other researcher told me that I could find my family in a book called "Ziegler Family Record - Revised" by Floyd and Kathryn Mason. After searching online for this book, I found my way somehow to this Brethren mailing list. I have been searching for many years for my elusive ancestor. His name was Martin ZEIGLER / ZIEGLER (spelled many ways).( I do know for sure that my Martin is "not" the Martin b. 1770 who was the son of George Philip of West Manchester Twp, York Co, PA. ) My Martin was b. 1778/1779 and is buried in Newport, Perry County, PA. His wife's name was Susannah. I have a lot of information on their children," except" for Amos and Susannah. I have nothing on them. The earliest reference I have found to my Martin is a tax list for Latimore Twp, Adams Co, PA in 1807. Along with him there are three other ZEIGLERS.....a Widow Mary, John who is a weaver, and Leonard. It has been impossible to trace the common names Mary and John, so I have tried to find Leonard (Leonhardt, etc.). The only thing I have been able to find is a Leonard Zeigler in a book called "The Ziegler Family Record" By Jesse Ziegler, Daniel P Ziegler. It says that Leonard "Moved to Adams co., PA". It only gives this additional information -- "Leonhardt Ziegler No. 8 Gen II, born Mar. 5, 1768 (son of Philip Ziegler b. in Bern, Switzerland 1734 and Regina Reguel b. in Wurtemburg, Germany and settled in Rehersburg, Lancaster County, PA (which is now Berks County, PA), married Catherine Redig who was born Nov. 16, 1772. They were married Dec. 10, 1790. Moved to Adams co., PA. To them were born 6 children as follows: 29. Elizabeth Ziegler, born Aug. 10, 1791 30. John Ziegler, born Dec. 31, 1793 31. Catherine Ziegler, born Dec. 31, 1795 32. Eva Ziegler, born July 16, 1800 33. Regina Ziegler, born Oct. 27, 1802 34. Mary Ziegler, born Aug. 28, 1805" 'My' Martin is not mentioned in that book. I am trying to find this new book where I have been told my family is included in hopes of finding - 1. The parents or siblings of my Martin Zeigler. 2. His wife Susannah's maiden name. 3. How Martin might be related to the Widow Mary, John, and Leonard that are on the same tax list in 1807. Does anyone have this book who might be willing to lookup my family in it? I would be happy to do some searching for you in return. I can access Heritage Quest, as well as KindredKonnections, and NewspaperArchive which my children have given me as Christmas gifts. (I'm an old lady on Soc. Sec. so this is what I ask for when gift times come around......makes it easy for them and I love it....LOL!) Thank you, Elizabeth
Elizabeth, I have the newer Ziegler Family Record Revised and in a quick look I do NOT find your Martin, the Leonhardt information from the 1906 book appears to be the same. Who told you your family was in the 1990 book? Ask them what page and I will look again. This book is still available from the authors: http://home.rica.net/masonf3150/ Stan Follis -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of elizabeth Sent: Wednesday, February 16, 2011 2:20 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [BRE] New and seeking help with surname ZEIGLER/ZIEGLER in book Hello, I just joined this list after receiving some information from some kind soul on another list.
