Hal, you probably suspect that I am trying to see if there is a connection between our mutual ancestor, Catherine Grove (died 1849 in Auburn Township, Sangamon County, Illinois) and the Graff/Groff families of Lancaster County. If so, you are correct. My hypothesis is that her line was Jacob Graff/Grove (died circa 1800) - Jacob Graff of Ephrata (1699-1776) - Hans Groff (died 1746) - Marx Graf (born 1640). Jacob Graff of Ephrata became a follower of Conrad Beissel, but his ancestry was Swiss Mennonite. The line that you have in your message doesn't fit for me. First there is no record to my knowledge that our Catherine Grove was born in 1780. Her tombstone and Poley Family Bible Study Book records indicate that she was born in 1776. Her father was known as Jacob Grove in Rowan and Wilkes Counties, North Carolina, and he died about 1800 (just prior to when his sons and daughters moved to Muhlenberg County, Kentucky). He was not a doctor who died in 1819. I suspect that he may have been the son of Jacob Graff (1699-1776) of Ephrata. This Jacob's father, Hans Groff died in 1746, not 1740. We do, however, converge with Marx Graf. I'm very curious how you got your generations of Graffs in between our Catherine Grove (1776-1849) and Marx Graf (born 1640). My findings, which are different from yours, are fully documented in "Jacob Graff (1699-1776) of the Ephrata Community," MENNONITE FAMILY HISTORY, April 2009, pp. 74-80. Did your Elder Daniel B.
