    1. Re: [BRE] Rummels, 1750s, Lancaster Co, Pa, plus Webers
    2. Merle Rummel
    3. They moved on to Westmoreland Co (as did many of the Germans in Lanc Co) & then westward. As for the Weaver/Webers, I've been to Lanc Co a number of times & done a great deal of research on them. Casper was a member of the First Reformed Church. Valentine Weber may have been Casper's father as they named their 1st son Valentine, nine & a half months after they were married. There was a church record for a Valentine Weber being buried 19 Dec 1789, aged 86y 4m 14d. But I've wondered about the Rummels. As near as I can tell, there was no son named Jacob. But he could have died before being baptized. The second son that I can find being baptized, in 1759 (which is a long time after Casper's marriage), was Peter Weber. And Merle, did any of your Stumps come through Columbiana Co, Oh also? ******************** Jacob Rummel came to America in 1748 with his eldest son Valentine [York Co]. Elizabetha came the next year, with the 4 other sons and a daughter (sons: Jacob Jr [York Co], Michael [to Philadelphia], George [to Gettysburg - my line] and Frederick [Carlisle]). My first finding was that Jacob died and was buried at Mt Joy - later info says York PA. - so the Valentine Weber would have been named after Anna Elizabeth's older brother. The information I have is: Anna Elizabeth Rummel married 15 Feb 1750 to Casper Weber (?son of Herman Weber) - son Valentine - born that same year; Catherine born 1754; Margaret born 1756; Peter born 1759; John Casper born 1767; and Frederick born c1769. - I find here several common family names. My own line was George Rummel's son Peter - who came west in 1810 (after George's death) to near Youngstown OH - living directly on the Ohio-Pennsylvania state line - along with 7 of George's 12 children (Trumbull-Mahoning -Columbiana Cos OH - and Beaver-Lawrence Cos PA) I found reference to Casper Weber living in Northumberland Co (which originally was almost all of the northern part of Pennsylvania) - then I found info of them in Westmoreland Co. (My brother pastored at Ligonier PA - then at Greenville, Cearfield Co PA) Now - as to the Stumps - There were 2 original Johan George Stumps - in Tullpehocken (Berks Co) - one [mine] came down from the Schoharie Valley, near Albany NY [this family had several connections with the Brethren in the Tulpehocken] - the other came up from Philadelphia (both families being Palatinate immigrants). My Abraham - grandson of Johan George (and I now disagree with Carl Stump's statement - as son of Casper - since I found records at Freeburg [then Strawubstown] of both an Abraham Sr and an Abraham Jr - mine being Abraham Jr - and being well aware that in those days, Jr often meant only that there was an older member of the family with the same name) - went to "Upper Canada" (near Toronto) in 1804. (Johan Georg Stump had sons: Abraham and Casper - of whom we know no children - other children: Christopher [Brethren], John [probably Brethren], Michael [Brethren - Catherine Neff], Maria Catherine [Brethren - George Boshear], and Magdalena (Brethren - Michael Weiland]) The statement in Ontario, was that there were 5 Stump brothers who came to Upper Canada from Somerset Co PA (I'm still trying to find out more about this information). Now, my Abraham lived first at Freeburg, then at Shamokin (both then in Northumberland Co) before moving to Canada. I'm suspecting that some of Abraham's family did go to Somerset Co (?Brothers Valley) before a move to Canada - but probably not my Abraham.(1800 Census has him in Northumberland Co). Of Abraham's children and the Brethren - my Solomon's family were primary at the Union Center Church of the Brethren near Nappanee IN - Daniel was a Bishop of the Brethren in Christ Church (River Brethren) - who had close origins with the German Baptist Brethren. They lived across the road from each other, east of Nappanee. Up in Ontario (Archives - Brock University, St Catherines ONT) - both groups (German Baptist Brethren and River Brethren) were called "Dunkers" - I could not find much about the German Baptist Brethren - and a lot on the River Brethren (with considerable assistance from the University Archivist). Here in Northern Indiana - there were one or more other Stump families who came directly west from western Pennsylvania - with whom my Abraham Stump grandchildren intermarried. I have not made effort to trace them to exactly where they lived in PA or family relationship. One family - Adam Stump - did come from near Erie PA - and moved there from Canada - but I did not find a family connection. Adam's son, Abraham, had intermarriage with my Solomon's grandchildren - Burkholder - in St Joseph Co IN (Pine Creek Church). [My Solomon's son-in-law, John Burkholder, was a first minister at the Union Center Church near Nappanee IN.] Most of our settlement in northern Indiana (primarily Elkhart Co IN, but including Noble Co and St Joe Co) occurred in the late 1830s - my families (brothers: Solomon and Daniel Stump, with several Smith family cousins and their bro-in-law, Jacob Brown) came down about 1838 to 1840 This was immediately after the McKenzie Rebellion - 1837 - a march of farmers, south on the Port of Toronto - which was stopped by the Redcoats right in their community south of Maple ONT - farmers with Pitchforks and a few muskets - facing Cannon! - they RAN. Even McKenzie crossed the Humber River gorge, there, on the foot bridge on the John Smith farm - fled to Buffalo NY. Jacob Strycker - son-in-law of Solomon - immediately took wife and family clear around through the Great Lakes - to Wisconsin - to come down to Elkhart Co IN - I wonder what he was doing with the Rebels? - I come through his younger brother: Christopher Strycker - another son-in-law of Solomon - but Christopher came down to Elkhart Co IN (to John Burkholder's house) to get married.
