I've run across the last name "Nachtigall" in researching my Stover Brethren. I've never been sure how it was pronounced, but my aunt told me this weekend that a family of that name lived in Rapid City South Dakota, and were called the Nightingales.  I assume it is because Nachtigall means nightingale, but was this normal for this name to be switched to it's definition rather than a different pronounciation?
