    3. Bob, As I understand it, Daniel Hollinger married Barbara Groff. His sister Elizabeth Hollinger married John Groff. Barbara Groff was a daughter of Franz Groff. John Groff was a sister of Barbara if his father was Franz Groff, but he was not a sister if his father was Samuel Groff. Everyone seems to say John's father was Samuel, but I believe with Richard Warren Davis that his father was Franz Groff, making John and Barbara brother and sister. WHAT DO YOU THINK? The Zug issue is a little more palatable if you consider that Daniel Hollinger's brother-in-law, Abraham Groff, married (1) Maria Royer, and (2) Barbara Zug. Sounds like a lot of Barbara Zugs. I have her name as Barbara Groff. Am I incorrect or was it Elizabeth Barbara Groff (or Barbara Elizabeth Groff)? Daniel Holllinger and Elizabeth/Barbara Groff are my 4G Grandparents. I have another puzzle with Daniel that has intrigued me. He is buried in the Ulrich Zug family cemetery. Why? The only connection I have found to the Zug family was that Barbara's younger sister, Eva Groff, married John Kinsey, whose mother was Barbara Zug. That seems to be an awfully weak as a reason for the burial. I have visited the cemetery, and Daniel is the only non-Zug there. 3. Not sure if this is useful but may be worth considering since the family names, of Royer, Zug, Groff and Hollinger (? Hallacher) are intertwined. Joseph Royer married Maria Martin, daughter of Martin Jr. and Anna (Wenger) Martin (Mennonites) about 1805 in Lancaster Co. She was b. 1787, d. in 1820 & is buried in the Tulpehochen Cemetery. The stone is written in German and Spelling is Reyer. Martin Martin is the son of Barbara Groff Martin & Martin Martin Joseph Royer purchased a tannery from his brother -in-law, Abraham Zug, in Rapho Twp. Abraham m. Daniel Royer's daughter, & Joseph's sister, Susanna Royer. Joseph remarried & moved to Ohio after Maria's death. He is buried in Stark Co. On another note, Benjamin Royer b. 1767, d. 1841 (buried in Lehn's Cemetery), m. Annie Hallacher. I am not sure, but found "Royer" farm on Royer Rd in Lancaster Co. and believe that Charles Hallacher lived there in the mid 1800s. Seems likely that he may have married into the Royer family since they owned land nearby. Would like more info on this farm but have not researched it. Info came from a brochure found on farms of that period while visiting the local historical society there . Much of the early Royer family history was recorded by descendant Michael Zug, b. 1832. 1. Re: [BRE] Graff Family Brethren
    2. Dwayne Wrightsman
    3. Thank you, Ruth, for your account of Franz Graff (Grove) of Grosswinternheim who immigrated in 1748. Are you familiar with the religion of this family after they immigrated? The Franz Graff family that I am studying is the one from Rafz, Canton of Zurich, Switzerland. Franz Graff (1734-1819) immigrated at age 10 with his mother Verena [Neukomm] and his siblings in 1744 and settled thereafter in Rapho Township, Lancaster County. Some of his children became members of the Conestoga Brethren Congregation. Franz's second wife was Eva Hamacher, Brethren, whose father, Adam Hamacher, was a minister at Great Swatara Creek in 1770. This Franz Graff family is one of five Graff families that I have found who came over as Mennonites, but who had family members who joined the Brethren after settling in Pennsylvania. The other four Graff families were descended from Mennonite Graff families of Bäretswil, Canton of Zurich, Switzerland. Three of these Graff families joined Beissel's Ephrata Community with some of the children subsequently joining the Conestoga Brethren. The fourth Graff family (Groh, Grove) had Brethren connections at Little Swatara Creek. I am writing a short article for this October's issue of Mennonite Family History on Graff emigrants whose immediate family members became Brethren and, so far, have only found five such families. There are no doubt others that I don't know about at this juncture.
