Merle: The Abraham Hochstetler you list below is HS-61 per AAMG. He is the son of Christian Hochstetler, and grandson of Jacob Hochstetler, the Amish immigrant and survivor of the famous Hochstetler Indian massacre of 1757. Christian and his father were taken prisoner for some period of time. Merle, my ancestors included the Gish family, thus I have followed it. Abraham Gish b 1794 was married, I believe, in 1826, not 1806 (12 yrs old then). The Milford Mail, Milford, Indiana August 1, 1901, pg 5, col 1 "An Old Citizen Gone. Daniel Forney, who had reached the ripe old age of 86 years, died at his home northeast of Milford on Friday of the in infirmaties of old age. He was one of the best known citizens of this vicinity and a man whose life had been without blemish or stain. He had been a member of the German Baptist church for many years, and was honored and respected by all who knew him. He leaves a wife, one son and two daughters. The son is Elder Hiram Forney of Goshen, while the daughters are Mrs. C. B. Stiver of Goshen, and Mrs. Ella Moorehouse, who lives at the home of the deceased. The funeral was conducted on Sunday, at the Big church, located on the homestead, and the interment was in Baintertown cemetery. A large number of neighbors and friends followed the remains to their final resting place in the Silent City of the dead."

I am working on a Coffman line from near Harrisonburg, VA, but it is not Brethren, but members and ministers of the United Brethren in Christ.church. I understand there were even two Martin Coffman's from that area both ended up in Fairfield Co,OH. One was United Brethren in Christ and the other from another church. I know there were Brethren in the area. A good source from the Kauffman-Coffman families is the book "Kauffman-Coffman Lineages" by Charles Fahs Kauffman (1940). I know it is available in the Allen Co., IN library in Ft. Wayne and several other libraries. Many of the records on the Shenandoah valley were buried by Sherman during the civil war so records are scarce. A primary method I am using in my research of the early Brethren Churches of Kentucky, is to follow the Brethren families, as they go to Kentucky, and as members of the family leave Kentucky in the moves west. A primary method I am using in my research of the early Brethren Churches of Kentucky, is to follow the Brethren families, as they go to Kentucky, and as members of the family leave Kentucky in the moves west.
