I am away from home and do not have access to my files. My ancestor Johann Adam Wise was married to Maria Elizabetha Graff. Her father, Franz Graff, was apparently on the same ship (the name of which I can't recall this minute.) when they came over in 1748. I have church record copies at home which gives the names. I will try to attend to getting that information to all when I return next week. I have never tried to find further information on the original family. I hope the information will help someone. Dale-- Thanks for your research. However, the Bowman death records you found in the Missouri Archives do not match the ones I have listed. They do match another Bowman family (also Brethren) who lived in Johnson County, MO. The death records you found all pertain to this family. The Gospel Messenger entry for July 18, 1895, p. 462 listing Fannie Belle Bowman as the daughter of Elder David and Susan Bowman from the Prairie View congregation in Morgan County, MO, matches the death entry on the sheet I have. Most likely these are all children of Elder David and Susan Bowman and not the Johnson County MO Bowmans. Thanks, Jane Davis. > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > Date: Fri, 29 Apr 2011 08:53:25 -0400 > Subject: [BRE] Bowmans of Johnson County Missouri > > These are the death records I got this morning from the Missouri Archives. > > > > John Bowman born August 3, 1828 Ohio died February 1, 1911 Warrensburg, > Johnson County, Missouri buried Dunkard Cemetery > > He was the son of Christian and Annie (Plummer) Bowman who were born in > Ohio. A number of the Brethren (German Baptist) who came to Knox Tp, CCO came from the Mill Creek congregation in Woodworth, Mahoning Co, Oh. This small crossroad's town was located near the intersecting township lines of Springfield, Beaver, Boardman & Poland. The congregation in Knox Tp was called the Sandy congregation and covered a large area. The meeting itself was called the Reading Meeting. Many of the chn of the early settlers moved westward along US Rt 30 and I've found CCO names in most of the counties that Rt 30 crosses, all the way to Kosciusko Co and also the northern tier of Ind counties. The Gospel Messenger July 18, 1895 page 462 Vol. BOWMAN. – In the Prairie View Congregation, Morgan Co., Mo., June 23, 1895, Fannie Belle, youngest daughter of Eld. David and Susan Bowman, aged 14years and 2 days. Little Fannie was very peculiarly afflicted. Early in the winter an abscess formed on her brain and since that time she had been afflicted with paralysis. The funeral discourse was delivered by Bro. Josiah Lehman, assisted by Bro. W. W. Holsopple and Daniel Kauffman, of the Mennonite church. Text, I Cor. 13: 12. Interment in the Prairie View cemetery. A crowded house of sympathizing friends witnessed the last sad rites. I am searching for the parents of Jacob Meyers (choose your spelling) who was born in 1782 in Springfield township, York county, Pennsylvania and died there in 1849. He married Salome Youndt. Were his parents Andrew and Margaret Keller Meyer? Any additional lineage will also be much appreciated. ................................ Valerie A. Metzler, M. A., C. A. This letterhead found among miscellaneous papers from the Mineral Creek/Leeton German Baptist Brethren Church, Leeton, Johnson County, MO contained the names of six Bowman births and three Bowman deaths. Reading the names of people connected to this company raised many questions in my mind. I would certainly like to know more about the company, where and when they planted colonies (of Brethren?) and who were the colonizers. What was the "co-operative plan"? There is a small article on this company in BE p 342 which states that it developed the second largest Brethren colony in California at Empire in 1908. Money was used to buy large tracts of land which were parceled out to settlers giving the settlers an advantageous option on land prices. Are there other colonies in California or other states where this company helped settle Brethren? A later effort begun in Canada did not materialize. Where? Jane Davis.

They moved on to Westmoreland Co (as did many of the Germans in Lanc Co) & then westward. As for the Weaver/Webers, I've been to Lanc Co a number of times & done a great deal of research on them. Casper was a member of the First Reformed Church. Valentine Weber may have been Casper's father as they named their 1st son Valentine, nine & a half months after they were married. There was a church record for a Valentine Weber being buried 19 Dec 1789, aged 86y 4m 14d. But I've wondered about the Rummels. As near as I can tell, there was no son named Jacob. But he could have died before being baptized. The second son that I can find being baptized, in 1759 (which is a long time after Casper's marriage), was Peter Weber. And Merle, did any of your Stumps come through Columbiana Co, Oh also? ******************** Jacob Rummel came to America in 1748 with his eldest son Valentine [York Co]. Elizabetha came the next year, with the 4 other sons and a daughter (sons: Jacob Jr [York Co], Michael [to Philadelphia], George [to Gettysburg - my line] and Frederick [Carlisle]). My first finding was that Jacob died and was buried at Mt Joy - later info says York PA. - so the Valentine Weber would have been named after Anna Elizabeth's older brother. The information I have is: Anna Elizabeth Rummel married 15 Feb 1750 to Casper Weber (?son of Herman Weber) - son Valentine - born that same year; Catherine born 1754; Margaret born 1756; Peter born 1759; John Casper born 1767; and Frederick born c1769. - I find here several common family names. My own line was George Rummel's son Peter - who came west in 1810 (after George's death) to near Youngstown OH - living directly on the Ohio-Pennsylvania state line - along with 7 of George's 12 children (Trumbull-Mahoning -Columbiana Cos OH - and Beaver-Lawrence Cos PA) I found reference to Casper Weber living in Northumberland Co (which originally was almost all of the northern part of Pennsylvania) - then I found info of them in Westmoreland Co. (My brother pastored at Ligonier PA - then at Greenville, Cearfield Co PA) Now - as to the Stumps - There were 2 original Johan George Stumps - in Tullpehocken (Berks Co) - one [mine] came down from the Schoharie Valley, near Albany NY [this family had several connections with the Brethren in the Tulpehocken] - the other came up from Philadelphia (both families being Palatinate immigrants). My Abraham - grandson of Johan George (and I now disagree with Carl Stump's statement - as son of Casper - since I found records at Freeburg [then Strawubstown] of both an Abraham Sr and an Abraham Jr - mine being Abraham Jr - and being well aware that in those days, Jr often meant only that there was an older member of the family with the same name) - went to "Upper Canada" (near Toronto) in 1804. (Johan Georg Stump had sons: Abraham and Casper - of whom we know no children - other children: Christopher [Brethren], John [probably Brethren], Michael [Brethren - Catherine Neff], Maria Catherine [Brethren - George Boshear], and Magdalena (Brethren - Michael Weiland]) The statement in Ontario, was that there were 5 Stump brothers who came to Upper Canada from Somerset Co PA (I'm still trying to find out more about this information). Now, my Abraham lived first at Freeburg, then at Shamokin (both then in Northumberland Co) before moving to Canada. I'm suspecting that some of Abraham's family did go to Somerset Co (?Brothers Valley) before a move to Canada - but probably not my Abraham.(1800 Census has him in Northumberland Co). Of Abraham's children and the Brethren - my Solomon's family were primary at the Union Center Church of the Brethren near Nappanee IN - Daniel was a Bishop of the Brethren in Christ Church (River Brethren) - who had close origins with the German Baptist Brethren. They lived across the road from each other, east of Nappanee. Up in Ontario (Archives - Brock University, St Catherines ONT) - both groups (German Baptist Brethren and River Brethren) were called "Dunkers" - I could not find much about the German Baptist Brethren - and a lot on the River Brethren (with considerable assistance from the University Archivist). Here in Northern Indiana - there were one or more other Stump families who came directly west from western Pennsylvania - with whom my Abraham Stump grandchildren intermarried. I have not made effort to trace them to exactly where they lived in PA or family relationship. One family - Adam Stump - did come from near Erie PA - and moved there from Canada - but I did not find a family connection. Adam's son, Abraham, had intermarriage with my Solomon's grandchildren - Burkholder - in St Joseph Co IN (Pine Creek Church). [My Solomon's son-in-law, John Burkholder, was a first minister at the Union Center Church near Nappanee IN.] Most of our settlement in northern Indiana (primarily Elkhart Co IN, but including Noble Co and St Joe Co) occurred in the late 1830s - my families (brothers: Solomon and Daniel Stump, with several Smith family cousins and their bro-in-law, Jacob Brown) came down about 1838 to 1840 This was immediately after the McKenzie Rebellion - 1837 - a march of farmers, south on the Port of Toronto - which was stopped by the Redcoats right in their community south of Maple ONT - farmers with Pitchforks and a few muskets - facing Cannon! - they RAN. Even McKenzie crossed the Humber River gorge, there, on the foot bridge on the John Smith farm - fled to Buffalo NY. Jacob Strycker - son-in-law of Solomon - immediately took wife and family clear around through the Great Lakes - to Wisconsin - to come down to Elkhart Co IN - I wonder what he was doing with the Rebels? - I come through his younger brother: Christopher Strycker - another son-in-law of Solomon - but Christopher came down to Elkhart Co IN (to John Burkholder's house) to get married. Ginni, Thanks for the look up. I have that info plus the birth/bapt records of Casper & Elizabeth's chn. Ginni, I'm curious about your Brenners & Rudisills. Did any of your families come through Columbiana Co, Oh? And Merle, did any of your Stumps come through Columbiana Co, Oh also? Pat McArtor
Pat: Here is the information I found at the LCHS library in Lancaster. Williams, F. Colin; The Records of First Reformed Church, Lancaster, PA, 1730-1980;(April 2002)(Repository: Lancaster County Historical Society Library, Lancaster, PA); Vol.6, pg 172 Marr 15 Feb 1750 Rummel, Anna Elizabeth and Weber, Caspar Unfortunately, the extractions contained in these volumes is very minimal. I don't know if that is because the only information recorded was name of parties and type and date of event, or whether it was because the editor simply hadn't the time or resources to more comprehensive job of it. I wasn't looking for Webers, so I didn't investigate the birth records there. I would recommend that you search under the name Weber, rather than Weaver when searching in the church records. Both the First Reformed and the Trinity Lutheran records were maintained in German only until quite some time after this marriage occurred. And you should definitely search in the Lutheran records as well as the Reformed records. Some families seem to have gone back and forth between the churches. Also, in the very early years of Lancaster, Trinity Lutheran was the only German language church, so a lot of people from other denominations got married there. Good luck searching. As far as I can determine - the Rummel's were Lutheran/Reformed - until they came to Ohio (Youngstown area). there some descendants later became Brethren. My line - my gr grandfather - Isaiah Rummel - himself never joined - but married into the Stump family at Nappanee IN, who were Brethren. All the children became Brethren, and most of us are still Brethren (Church of the Brethren or First Brethren). ************* I must add - Mary Rummel, yougest daughter of George, married Philip Snell - the family retained the Germanic spelling of their name - Schnell - he died young - only 3 children - and I can only trace one of them. Philip Snell was of a Brethren Family - and they moved west with several others of the Rummel children. After leaving Gettysburg, a first stop seems to have been near Waynesboro (Zullinger) - then on to Bedford Co - whether that included Brothers Valley or not - I don't know - but several of the families are found in Somerset County records. Rummel PA - a suburb now of Johnstown - was one group of Rummels. The Schnell family went into Westmoreland Co. a very few of the family remained near Getysburg. Merle C Rummel
I'm trying to find out about Elizabeth, born ca 1730, supposedly the d/o Jacob & Elizabeth (Ernst) Rummel. She married Gasper/Casper Weaver in 1750 in Lancaster Co, Pa. I'd like to know the source that connects Jacob & Elizabeth with Elizabeth Jr. Were they Brethren? I saw that identification Jacob Rummel/Elizabetha Ernst - immigrant 1748-49 - had 5 sons - and one daughter There was no identificaiton of the daughter - until this appeared, but it is in the right locale - I have no knowledge of the source, and I would have asked on the "Rummel Family Forum", but my server has changed and I can't get back on the list again (I forgot how I first registered) I am working on the George family (just finished indexing all the names that I have - c400 pages of just names) - now I'm cross-referencing - to get intermarriages. As far as I can determine - the Rummel's were Lutheran/Reformed - until they came to Ohio (Youngstown area). there some descendants later became Brethren. If you have a GPS you can put in these coordinates.... 40°13'4.65"N 76°22'8.76"W The Rohrer farm is the larger of the two farms on that corner and it is on the northern side of the road as Airy Hill Road makes the turn. The graveyard is in the field behind the house on the East side. Make sure it is dry when you go or bring mud boots. And if you go, Bob Harter is interested in the Daniel Hollinger stone. I took a photo but the bottom half of the stone was covered by some healthy rye grass. Bob, As I understand it, Daniel Hollinger married Barbara Groff. His sister Elizabeth Hollinger married John Groff. Barbara Groff was a daughter of Franz Groff. John Groff was a sister of Barbara if his father was Franz Groff, but he was not a sister if his father was Samuel Groff. Everyone seems to say John's father was Samuel, but I believe with Richard Warren Davis that his father was Franz Groff, making John and Barbara brother and sister. WHAT DO YOU THINK? The Zug issue is a little more palatable if you consider that Daniel Hollinger's brother-in-law, Abraham Groff, married (1) Maria Royer, and (2) Barbara Zug. Sounds like a lot of Barbara Zugs.
