In the 12,000 I have connected, there were a lot of illiterate folks, but most were hard working farmers, with many soldiers, a few sheriffs, justice of the peace, doctors, judges and even an ambassador. I haven't found any that gave lawyer or attorney as their occupation on a census. Regarding my previous message about persecution, my own research of those times has centered on the Huguenots. Since one derivation of the BREEDLOVE name is from France, meaning a trapper of wolves, I tried looking at possible emigrants from France who came to England to avoid persecution and then later came to Virgina. There are some possibilities in those names but my ability to read French is much worse than my German, so I haven't made much progress. It is an area that needs further research. Tom King
