I was doing a lookup for someone today in my Reminiscent History of the Ozark Region book (Goodspeed) and came upon this name (Peter MANKIN) in the index. It caught my eye because we have not been able (yet) to establish whether or not my 3rd G-Grf's middle name would be William Mankin Breedlove, or William "Martin" Breedlove. William M. Breedlove lived in Crawford county, MO. On page 777 of the book, in the bio for Major Charles GALLOWAY of Greene County, MO, it gives an account of one of the Civil War events in his life/career and says that Charles was "in many engagements through Missouri and Arkansas and on Jan. 4, 1863, with only twenty men, made a dash into Ozark, AR, and when ordered to halt, gave his characteristic order to charge, the result being that a number of prisoners were taken, also several horses and and a number of guns, and some stores destroyed. He was also sent to Crawford county to break up the gang of Peter Mankin's desperadoes, who were suppose to be hiding there...." This Peter Mankin was the only person with that surname mentioned in the book. Probably much ado about nothing, but I am throwing it out there. Carol Wilkerson
