Several years ago one of my correspondents hired a VA researcher, this is the info that was forwarded to me by: Mrs. Stanley H. Young, Box 7, Shelbyville, Illinois, 62565, descends from one Dr. John Wesley Trower, Jr 1810-1855 and Jane Breedlove, his wife, 1805-1874, married 7 Sept 1830, Albemarle co VA Jane Breedlove dau of Cornelius Breedlove b ca 1765-1770 d May 1850 and Jane Beck, his wife b 1774, d Aug 1849 who was the son of Thomas Breedlove, sometimes spelled Breadlove of Albemarle Co Va. Client has relied on correspondence and published accounts of the Breedlove family by other genealogist but which accounts fail to cite source, etc.. It is believed those accounts have mixed and combined the records of at least Two thomas Breedloves and possibly three. (to wit): 1-thomas Breedlove, with wife Sarah purchased 369 acres of land in Spotsylvania Co Va May 2, 1758 from Gawin and Hannah Corbin of Westmoreland Co at which time he is specified as being resident of Spotsylvania Co. this Thomas Breedlove and wife Sarah sold the 369 ac on Sept 1, 1760 to James Pritchett and he was then a resident of Orange co. We can estimate he was at least 21 yrs of age in 1758, thus born by 1736-7 and probably earlier. It is possible also he is the same Thomas Breedlove who was later in Albemarle Co but this has not been proven within this present assignment. (See Spotsylvania Co records by Crozer, pg 217 1-thomas Breedlove, Revolutionary Wr soldier who is listed on various payrolls from 28 Feb 1776 to March 1777 in Capt Francis taylor's Co of the 2nd Va Regt It is believed by this writer (researcher) that he is the same Thomas Breedlove found in culpeper co Va with a public service claim there in 1782 was in the militia of that county in Jan of 1781 as denoted by the recors of Culpeper Classes in Va State Library, but whose records were pursued no further in this assignment. We may state our unproven opinion that we believe him to have been a younger man than one born in the 1730s. 30/Thomas Breedlove of Albemarle Co Va owned 450 ac of land in that county before 1782 had a public service claim for furnishing supplies to the continental Army in 1782 was the head of a family of 12 whites in 1785 in Albeamrle co as listed in the heads of households, state enumerations of VA 1782--. His origin before coming into Albemarmle Co has not been proven by this researcher but he evidently was also born in the 1730s and it is possible he may have been the Thomas Breedlove enumerated as number 1 above. More evidene as to this must be secured. IT IS QUITE EVIDENT THAT THIS IS THE THOMAS BREEDLOVE WITH WHOM WE ARE CONCERNED AS BEING THE ANCESTOR OF CLIENT. Albemarle Co Va records Public service claims, 1782-court booklet, pg 4 At a court held for Albemarle Co 12 Sept 1783 Thomas Breadlove on a certificate for 222 bushels of meal, L1 7 shillings (?) pence.. Commissioners book II, pg 345 Sept 6, 1783, paid to Thomas Breedlove for meal furnished the prisoners of war-11 shillings 1 pence... These are original records in the Archives of the Va State Library and are available nowhere else. these records prove eligibility for membership in the dAr and SAR for all proven descendants. It should be noted that a thomas Breedlove has a similar public service claim in Culpeper co Ct booklet II, pg 12 in this same period proving that there were Two - at least-of this name. Few more pages to this--later. As I recall Mrs. Young's purpose was to qualify her sister who wanted to join the DAR. Ellen, dande@mail.tds.net
