To all that have made inquiries about obtaining copies of the revised edition of Hope's book, I have had a few computer and personal problems that will delay getting copies made for another week or two. Have been having all kinds of computer problems since I installed WIndows 98 which somehow seem related to my internet service providers connection. I can make a connection to my local ISP but it will not recognize any DNS address for any web site, not even my ISP home page which includes email and newsgroups. This ISP uses a Netscape interface though it seemed to work okay when I first tried the Internet Explorer that installed with WIN 98. Win 98 will not let you remove IE so all you can do is remove it from the desktop. When I do make a good connection, it is only at 28K baud, half what it should be, and many website pages seem to take forever now to come up, even at half the speed I had before. What is really strange is that I do not have this problem with another machine that is WIN 95 with IE completely deleted. I suspect Microsoft has done something with IE in the WIN 98 edition that conflicts with the way Netscape operates, as I have never experienced this problem with any of the other versions or NT. On the personal front, my son was hit while crossing the street by a hit and run driver early Sunday morning. He was hit in the leg and rolled across the street. After being released from the emergency room he spent two days in bed while I tried to get him into a hospital, but was denied admisssion because of lack of insurance. Even though I have the money to put up a cash deposit, none of the local for profit hospitals would take him in. Seems as though they would rather do a lot of unneccessary procedures and rip off the insurance companies than take a cash paying customer. Anyhow, after waiting for ten hours to be seen at the local county hospital, he was admitted and will be operated on either tonight or in the next 5 days, to reset the leg and to put in a plate and a few pins. He's 26 BTW, and should pull through just fine, but it's all added a few more grey hairs to my head. I got a 2nd opinion to be sure the procedure is required and found that the orthopedic surgeon is one of the top rated in the area, which alleaves some of my worries. To top it all, his car died at the hospital, as an electrical problem keeps cutting it off after it is started, so it had to be towed back to the shop a block from the house. When it rains, it pours, which by chance it did pour down rain here yesterday for the first time in months with 30-40% chance of rain for the next few days though the temperature is still expected to be over 100. Will still be getting my email but just not as often as I can only get on a few times a day rather than every hour or two. Tom King
