Au, contraire, I would bet any amount of money that this Charles is the one on the 1850 census. Mildred and Amelia are the same name, with Millie, Milly as pet forms. I had an Aunt Mildred (by her birth certificate) that was called both Amelia and Milly and her social security file is under Amelia. It's likely someone told the census taker her name was Milly and he wrote down Amelia when he could have just as easily wrote Mildred, either of which is correct for the nickname Milly. The daughter Mary E. is age two on the 1850 census which fits exactly with the daughter of Charles and Mildred/Amelia. James Yancey was born later in 1850 after the census was taken so he was not listed. There is not one doubt in my mind that the Charles that died in 1852 is the one on the 1850 census age 28 born in Tennessee. Did you get a copy of the actual marriage record for Charlea? All of the printed abstracts give her name as Millard M. Damons, so I'd be interested to see exactly what the original record shows. > There is no Amelia in the Dameron family. Without having seen ALL of the payout records for the estate of William Breedlove to the son Charles (the ones you sent are inconclusive), I cannot rule out the one who died in 1852 as being his son. For the sake of argument if we rule out William as his father, and John and Spencer as their sons named Charles were in their households in 1850, that leaves only James & Nancy as the parents for this Charles. If that is true, then James and Nancy had to have moved to Tennessee before 1822 when this Charles was born there. This is entirely possible since we have no further record of them after the 1820 Census of Rutherford Co., NC. There are still other possiblities as the father of this Charles, namely the brother James, or the fourth unknown male shown in the 1820 Rutherford census. What is strange about the entire estate proceedlings is that not one Breedlove is involved, either as administator, bond guarantor or child guardian or in the sale of property. This would indicate to me that this Charles was an outcast or black sheep of the family. Could it be that he is another illegitimate son of Patsy and brother to Simpson???? Tom
