When I left on my trip about a month ago, Tom King and I had just concluded an exchange regarding James K. Dameron and his relationship to the Charles Breedlove who died in Greene Co, MO on May 03, 1852. (Tom - your e-mail of Aug 20, 1998) My contention and argument, now my conviction, that this Charles Breedlove (heirs Mildred Ann Breedlove, Mary and James Y. Breedlove) was not the Charles Breedlove on the 1850 Greene Co, MO census is now supported by these source facts after revisiting Greene and Webster counties, MO. File 476, Greene Co, MO probate records contains the probate of the estate of Charles Breedlove deceased on 5-03-1852. File 1895, Webster Co, MO probate records contains the probate of the estate of James K. Dameron deceased 12-10-1885. The widow of Charles Breedlove was Mildred Ann Breedlove as verified by these two independent probate processes. This widow Mildred Ann Breedlove later marries Raleigh McDonald by Feb 14, 1855 (based on a series of receipt signatures). There is no Amelia in the Dameron family. (I do not know the Amelia family name who is married to the Charles Breedlove on the 1850 Greene Co, MO census. This Charles, from TN and son of William Sr, I believe dies about/after 1860, perhaps in the Civil War.) Webster Co, MO probate File 1895 yields the following heirs fitted to Tom King's Family Group Sheet information. CHILDREN OF BARSHEBA DAMERON: 1. Mildred Ann Dameron. Spouse Charles Breedlove. Greene Co File 476 refers to Mildred Ann Breedlove and Mildred Ann Mcdonald by 1855. Webster Co File 1895 refers to Millie McDonald deceased. Children are: W.T. McDonald R.L. McDonald Mary E. Singleton (dau of Charles and Mildred Ann Breedlove) Sarah A. Singleton Rhonda Ann Summer James Breedlove (son of Charles and Mildred Ann Breedlove, "J. Y." signed on receipts for "James Yancy") 2. Martha F. Dameron. Spouse Francis Bruton, deceased. Children are: Jesse R. Bruton Jesse T. Bruton curator (probably brother of Francis) Viola S. Bruton same Ottis S. Bruton same James E. Bruton Martha C. Stuckey Lucy A. Greenup Candis R. Coldwell 3. John S. Dameron. Children of John S. Dameron, deceased: Artelia Dameron, spouse George Garner Winnie Dameron, spouse W.M. Crump S. C. Dameron 4. Artelia S. Dameron. Spouse Richard Carden. Artelia Susan (sometimes Susan A. or S. Artelia) while an heir, she resided in Kansas and owed the estate more that she could repay and is therefore not entitled to settlement. 5. Barsheba Dameron. Spouse Jackson Slack. CHILDREN OF OLIVE ANN MOORE DAMERON as reasoned from 1840 Caswell Co, NC census and (ages on 1860 Webster Co, MO census in parentheses): 6. Jomanda Dameron (16). Spouse C. W. Brooks (receipt signature as witness) 7. Eliza J. Dameron (15). Spouse FNU Henslee. 8. Anderson H. Dameron (12). Administrator of estate of James K. Dameron. 9. Laura E. Dameron (10). Spouse FNU Fisher. 10. James A. Dameron (7) 11. Yancy C. Dameron (3) Artela S. Dameron Carden was an heir not entitled to settlement. Yancy C. was not named in any way as an heir and must have died without wife or children by Dec 10, 1885. The name "Yancy" given to Charles and Mildren Ann Bredlove's son James Y, and to Yancy C. Dameron may have come from a very prominent judge. "The History of Greene Co, MO 1883" (Greene County Archives Bulletin Number Forty-Two) pp 228-230 describes a famous and respected Judge Charles S. Yancey who presided over the first legal hanging in Greene County on Aug 25, 1854. James K. Dameron is found on the 1840 Caswell Co, NC census with no wife, James (30-40), 1M(5-10), 2F(under 5), 2F(5-10). James K. Dameron was the Administrator of the estate for Charles Breedlove who died May 03, 1852 in Greene Co, MO. The Damerons and the Breedloves (Charles, John, James, and Eliza) apparently came to MO about the same time form NC. Brother Spencer (on 1850 Greene Co, MO census) born in NC was already in MO having lived with Uncle William, married his cousin Sally and arriving via TN. Finally, let me compliment Mr. Robert Neumann, Supervisor of the Greene County Archives. Address: Greene County Archives & Records Center Office of the County Clerk 1126 Boonville Springfield, MO 65802 (417)868-4102 FAX (417)868-4816 Many bulletins such as the one referenced above are printed and available for only $2.00 each. The archives accepts phone or written requests and researches their indexes free of charge. Copies are 25 cents each. Your mailing costs will be much more than these folks charge for their products and services.. Webster Co, MO probate records are more difficult to access. The process is a typical court house storage of records by an overworked staff. Bill Breedlove
