First off, you must NEVER rely on any other records, even those by Hope until you consult the original records to verify what has been printed. Hope made many errors and tried to pidgeon hole some families because the names and ages or places fit, without very much proof. A casual glance at census indexes shows there were Parker families in Albemarle and I have not seen any proof that Nancy Parker came from any North Carolina family. On several occasions I have pointed out that John was a Revolutionary War Soldier and that any marriage record might be shown in his pension record or in Nancy's application. Also I pointed out the estate probate in Montgomery Co., Alabama which also might show the widow's proof of marriage. I again suggest you send for John's pension record and his estate file or rent the films they are on and copy them. BTW the printed books on Albemarle County Marriages are spotty at best and are not all inclusive. There again you can rent the films of the original records for that date to see if the marriage record is there. Broderbund does list this marriage in 1787 in Albemarle on one of their marriage CD's so you can write them for their source, but don't hold your breath waiting for a reply. There is supposed to be an article on John in the Alabama Historical Quarterly, Vol. 6, no 4, pg 534. This particular number is missing from our set at the library. See also Pauline Gandrud's Alabama Records, Vol 135, Montgomery County, pgs 55-57, and Vol. 190, pgs 47-50. > Inspite of my assertion, if facts prove me wrong, I will gladly > acquiesce. Maybe I'm a doubting Thomas and want to poke my fingers into all of the holes in this Breedlove tree, but I have learned long ago that anything typed or printed is suspect. Breedlove lineages given in DAR, SAR, Hope's book and Olive's Notes all have mistakes, though Olive mostly just gave the data and source without trying to make too many connections. Send for copies of the original records and see what they say. They may surprise you or, more than likely, will lead to a lot more quesions. It never ends. Tom King
