I heard this story about five brothers, not from my Breedlove kin, but from the other side of my family about the Ozark "Collins"! I think it is a very common myth that ricochets around many family traditions. (And don't forget the "five Chineses brothers" story--maybe this is a common idea in lots of cultures). Of course, this is not to say it is untrue of the Breedloves (for example, I think there's evidence to back up the story about the Collins who came to the Ozarks), but without any documentation, I would be careful....
