Dottie, I have not done any research on my own about the Herndons who are supposed to be from Kent and I have not heard this story. I did go see the home of Sir Dudley Diggs in Chilham. That was a real treat. Today it is owned by a Greek family who do not allow the locals in the grounds which were designed by the famous landscape architect, Capability Brown.
