    3. The suggestion that the Spanish and Portugese immigrated through SC is interesting and suggests that we might all benefit from a history lesson. I am tracing Chisholms through Charleston, SC 1750-1803 during which time this is primarily a British port. I am aware that this is a very significant British Colony and port in the 1700's having British governors, and was the southernmost British strength at the time of the Revolutionary War. Specifically, the Battle of Kings Mountain in 1780 was a turning point that required the British to reinforce this southern exposure. I too would appreciate knowing how much non-British immigration through Charleston, SC was the norm. Or, was this non-English immigration typically through other and more southern ports?
