    2. Dear Willette, If you've never used or never heard of RootsWeb's "Personal Mailing List" (PML) feature, then I can see why this would be confusing. Using PML (if you've contributed monetarily to RootsWeb at a certain level) allows one to set up a limited number of keywords (surnames) to "search" for, so that whenever any mailing list anywhere generates a note with your keyword in it, the PML will send a copy to your mailbox regardless if you're a subscriber or not. In this case, the person replying to you set it up for "Jinks". Since you mentioned Jinks in your note, then that person got a PML message. You can go to the PML website address given in the previous e-mail for more details. All that being a "member" (subscriber) of a mailing list confers is that you get a copy of all the messages sent on that mailing list (be it individual messages or digest or both). The list archives are wide open for perusal by anybody. Hope this helps.
