Rootsweb has just added indexes to the California Births since 1905 and deaths since 1940 at userdb.rootsweb.com/ca/birth/search.cgi and userdb.rootsweb.com/ca/death/search.cgi These online indexes have more detail than the microfilm and microfiche set of indexes that are available in some libraries. I've found quite a few maiden names for Breedlove wives that I didn't have before. On deaths you can search by state of birth, by surname, surname of father or surname of mother, so I've found a few Breedlove females that were children on 1920 and earlier censuses, that later married.
