Dear Tom King, Slave were enumerated separately on the 1850 & 1860 census enumerations. I would GUESS that the information was gathered on the same day by the same census taker that took the information on the owner and his family. But the information was put on separate forms, so it's always possible that both forms did not survive. It does occur to me that an owner could have slaves in a certain county and state, without actually being a resident of that place. I was interested in your questions about Benjamin Breedlove.
