Mary Watkins, dau of Wm Watkins first married Joseph Worsham, a wealthy man who was much her senior, and had one son Joseph Worsham. Joseph, Sr., died in 1758 in Chesterfield, VA. Mary Watkins Worsham married Benjamim Breedlove 2 Feb 1862 in Lunenberg Co., VA. There are quite a few records of Benjamin Breedlove as Joseph Worsham's guardian. On 7 Feb 1774 Joseph chose John Watkins, one of Mary's brothers, to be his guardian. Martha
Don-Will print what I have as the list in a moment. Just have a couple of things re the Broadus name. Several years ago I corresponded with a woman named Jane Ferguson in titusville, FL. she descends from Martin Breedlove. One day an inlaw of one of her children came to the house with a book on Broadus, that is where the Sarah Broadus came in. I just like people to remember that it was Jane who found it because Jane is not at all well at this time. Also re Broadus Breedlove he died in MO at a pretty advanced age. As I recall it was Camden Co. but might have to look it up to be certain. Marilyn Owen is more organized than I am...and I think much younger. Maybe she will make additions or corrections. Does any Breedlove researcher know what happened to Margaret Butts? She descends from Martin through his dau Priscilla who m a Page in warren co. She & her husband moved from Boonville, CA about 3 yrs ago to Belize, Central America. I heard a couple of yrs and lost track of her. Ellen, dande@mail.tds.net
Don, take a look at my "John Breedlove of North Carolina" web page at "http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/6359/breedlov/breedlov.html". It covers the Breedlove family in Warren/Vance/Granville Counties, as well as the ones in Orange County. Newman and Nancy moved from Warren to Orange between 1810 and 1820. I don't think that the ones in Rutherford County were closely connected to those in the northern North Carolina Counties. How are you connected to these families? At 03:58 PM 11/4/98 EST, you wrote: >Who was Benjamin who ma 20 Feb 1762 Linenburg co VA W/D Mary Worsham. >Thanks much Don Dear Don, I'm sending my reply to you via the Breedlove list, as I thought others might be interested. I'm sorry. I have not systematically studied the Lunenburg, VA records, since my particular Breedlove line did not go through there. Are you sure that a Benjamin Breedlove married a Mary Worsham there in 1762? I have the marriage of Benjamin to Mary Watkins that year, same place. Maybe it's the same lady. I seem to recall that she was a widow when she married--nee Watkins, maybe? Let me briefly tell you what I have about Charles Breedlove, the Immigrant, and his family. I don't know how the Benjamin and John Breedlove of Luneburg Co., VA connect to him, but I assume they are grandchildren. Charles Breedlove first shows up in the Essex Co., VA record in 1709. He married about 1715, Mary Parr, daughter of Philip Parr & Judith Allaman [daughter of Thomas Parr & Constitine]. Charles' inventory was dated April 10, 1758, Essex Co., VA. Children: 1. William m. Millicent. Earliest Breedlove [other than Charles] mentioned in Essex records, 16 May 1738 in Court Orders. He and Millicent witnessed the will of Humphrey Meggs in 1746, Essex Co., VA. No further records. 2. Nathan m. Mary. He is first mentioned with his father Charles Breedlove in 1746 when the two of them are Securities for Kindness Tribble to administer the estate of William Tribble [likely the husband of Kindness]. Nathan was administrator of the estate of Charles Breedlove deceased, dated February 21, 1758 in Essex Co. Nathan and wife Mary Breedlove sold land to Alleman Breedlove in 1761 in Essex Co. Mary Tribble made Nathan her heir and he was the Executor of her estate. [It's thought that possibly Mary Parr Breedlove, after the death of her husband, Charles, married a Tribble & she is the Mary Tribble who made Nathan her heir]. Will of Nathan Breedlove probated 16 October 1786, Essex Co., VA, names wife, Mary. To son John, that part of my land that my brother James Breedlove formerly lived on. Also names other sons, Isaac & Nathan. 3. Allamn Breedlove m. Susanna. He bought land from Nathan & Mary Breedlove [see above]. He was also named in the will of Mary Tribble [above mentioned], apparently as a back-up legatee to Nathan. Allaman's will was probated in 1775 in Essex Co., VA. He wife Susanna is named as Executor. He names his sons Allaman, William & Braxton. 4. James Breedlove m. Lucrecy [probably]. He died intestate in Essex Co. His final estate settlement was made on March 16, 1767. Nathan Breedlove was owed money out of the estate. Lucrecy Breedlove's estate was presented for Inventory & Appraisement in Essex Co. on Jan. 20, 1772 by Peter Trible, Nathan Breedlove & John Mann. Robert Mann was Administrator. Mary Trible, Nathan Breedlove & Constant Edmonson [sister of Mary Parr Breedlove] were among those owed money out of the estate. 5. Phillip Breedlove m. Sarah. Early Breedlove researchers have listed Philip as a child of Charles & Mary, even though Phillip never appears in the Essex Co., VA records. He is supposed to be listed in a 1758 record of Spotsylvania co., Va. Probably named for his grandfather, Phillip Parr. No further information. 6. Kindness Breedlove m. William Tribble. Early Breedlove researchers have listed Kindness as a daughter of Charles & Mary. William Tribble's land adjoined the land of Charles & Mary Breedlove in Essex Co. both Charles Breedlove and Nathan Bteedlove were Securities for Kindness to administer the estate of William Trible cited above]. The name Kindness, is found in later generations of the Breedlove family. 7. Hester Breedlove m. John Trible. As with William & Kindness Trible, John & Hester Trible were neighbors of Charles Breedlove, so it has been suggested by previous Breedlove researchers that Hester may have been a daughter of Charles & Mary Breedlove. 8. Mary Breedlove married Isaac Kidd. Isaac & Mary Kidd were witnesses to the will of Mary Trible, written in 1765. Both were deceased by the time the will was probated in 1777. Previous Breedlove researchers thought that Mary Parr Breedlove would have named a daughter for herself, and so it was thought that this daughter might be Mary Kidd 9. Thomas Breedlove m. Sarah Broaddus. Thomas is never mentioned in the Essex records, but if his estimated birth year of 1730 is correct, he is most certainly a son of Charles & Mary Breedlove [rather than a grandson]. Thomas was in Spotsylvania Co. in 1758 when he bought land from Gawin & Hannah Corbin. Thomas [now a resident of Orange Co.] sold the same land in 1760 to James Pritchett. A Thomas Breedlove is mentioned in the Culpeper Co. Minute book in 1763/4. By 1768 Thomas Breedlove was in Albemarle Co., VA. He appears in the Albemarle Co. records through the 1800 tax list. No will or probate has been found for him. The children I have listed for him [not all confirmed] are John, Thomas J. [m. Sarah], William [m. Mary Watts], Benjamin, Philip [m. Nancy Barnes], Matthew [m. Mary Carr], Madison [m. Judy Buckner], Cornelius, [m. Jane Beck], Charles [m. Theodosia Cleavenger], Richard [m. Mildred Watts] & Martin [m. Elizabeth Carr]. 10. Charles Breedlove. May be the Charlies Breedlove in the Middlesex Co., VA record of 1754-58 with John Humston. Charles Breedlove was mentioned as living upon land belonging to Mary Trible when that lady wrote her will in 1765 [mentioned previously above]. One Charles Breedlove m. Sally Fletcher, but his descendants think he was a son of James and grandson of the first Charles. Don, My William Breedlove is a son of Thomas Breedlove & Mary Broaddus, and therefore a grandson of the Immigrant, Charles Breedlove. Do you still want a list of the children of my William? Marilyn Owen
Marilyn, Sarah Broaddus Breedlove was the daughter of Richard Broaddus and Bridgett Vaughan Broaddus. She is named in Richard's will as Sarah Breedlove. hi all: Again, just reposting my cconnection to see if there are any others out there with this line : ANNIE VERNELIA STEMBRIDGE b. Crawford Co.GA m. FRANK BREEDLOVE (they res. Macon, Bibb Co., GA on 1900 Census) --- her brothers were Frank Stembridge (my grandfather), Herbert & Grover Stembridge. Annie's parents had died/gone, andd she and Frank Breedlove had all of Annie's younger siblings living in their house with them on the 1900 Census! Annie & Frank had a daughter named Laura I believe....and she had a daughter, can't recall name. There was a connection in this family to a GIBSON family ... bill Gibson I believe Laura marr. -- and some were in TN. If anyone has any of these folks, pls. get in touch! *TINA/CA* TINA@TCSN.NET
Dear Tom, You wrote" Who's this guy: Nathan T. Breedlove who married 8/16/1803 in Albemarle County, VA to Elizabeth Burch? AND I also have an Elizabeth Breedlove as a possible daughter of Thomas and Sarah Broaddus Breedlove (no other info on her). Any thoughts? On Nathan T. Breedlove, I wonder if he is the Nathan Breedlove, who was the son of Thomas Breedlove Jr., whose will was proven in Orange Co., VA in 1807? On Elizabeth Breedlove as a possible daughter of Thomas & Sarah Broaddus, that one I've never heard before. It's always seemed amazing to me, however, that Thomas & Sarah have been credited with having eleven sons and NO daughters at all. I think it's quite possible that they could have had a daughter [or two] who married young, whose name has been lost to us. You don't give an estimated birth year for the Elizabeth alledged to be Thomas & Sarah's daughter. Martin Breedlove, son of Thomas & Sarah, had a daughter named Elizabeth [m. Dennis Smith]. Do you have anything on Matthew Breedlove, who married Mary Carr on 19 December 1781? This marriage was submitted by Aubrey Taylor Yancy years ago to the LDS records. I notice that Martin Breedlove married Elizabeth Carr, exactly ten years later. Because of the similiarity of names between the two couples, I'm wondering if YANCY somehow got confused and there actually was no Matthew Breedlove & Mary Carr--I've never found anything else on Matthew. On the Benjamin Breedlove, son of Thomas & Sarah, I have this in my records concerning him: This Benjmain Breedlove stated on his Revolutionary War pension application that he enlisted in Albemarle Co., in 1781 at age 19, but was born in Orange Co., VA in 1762. These places and dates coincide with known dates and places of residence of Thomas & Sarah. There was another, older Benjamin Breedlove who resided in Lunenburg [later Charlotte Co.], VA and who married in Lunenburg in 1762, Mary Watkins. This latter Benjamin had a brother John, who married Elizabeth Watkins, sister of Mary. Marilyn Owen

Dear Ellen and Marilyn, This proves the theory that nothing wakes people up better than erroneous information! My matchmaking list is more current than my database, unfortunately. I stand corrected. Who's this guy: Nathan T. Breedlove who married 8/16/1803 in Albemarle County, VA to Elizabeth Burch I also have an Elizabeth Breedlove as a possible daughter of Thomas and Sarah Broaddus Breedlove (no other info on her). Any thoughts? Tom
Don-re your list of Thomas and Sarah Breedlove's children. What happened to my ancestor Martin Breedlove b 1771? He is listed as William's brother which helps William receive his pension. Martin m Elizabeth Carr dau of Thomas and Anne Sanders Carr in 1791, Albemarle Co Va. I have never seen this list before without Martin's name. Now if I have read it wrong as I am getting a little up in years..I am sorry. Ellen Byrne
Dear Thomas Jones, I am a descendant of William Breedlove, son of Thomas and Sarah Broaddus Breedlove. William did NOT have the middle initial "B". I have all kinds of records for William, such as his R.W. Pension application, his original tombstone inscription, his obituary, his signiture on his daughter Sally's marriage bond. Some descendants have mistakenly put the middle initial "B" in his name, confusing him with a contemporary of William's, William "B" Breedlove, who was also a Revolutionary War Soldier. This mistake was still being carried down recently when a descendant ordered a DAR marker for William's grave, and gave him the middle initial "B". Marilyn Owen

Don, I'm going to put you on the mailing list -- Let me know if this is NOT what you want to happen. I've a feeling, though, that you'd like being on the list. And we'd be glad to have you, of course. I'll also forward your 2 questions from yesterday to the list. Thomas Breedlove and Sarah Broaddus' children are given in various sources as: John B. Tom, I am sure you have probably already caught this glaring error. However, sometimes what is right in front of us cannot be seen. You say below that "This Benjamin had to have been born about 1741, which is about ten years earlier than the estimated marriage of Thomas and Sarah in 1750...." Before that, you say that he "was 19 years old when he enlisted in 1781..." That makes Benjamin born around 1762 and makes him fit nicely in the Thomas and Sarah family between William (1761) and Phillip (1763). While we still need proof, it makes sense, in my opinion. Did you mean 1762 as his marriage date or his birth date? I'm inclined to believe Sarah may have married earlier than some of the estimates given - I would say as early as 1750 or 1751.
