I have been reading all about children of Martin Breedlove. I have a question. Do any of you have any info on Isaac Breedlove, b-abt 1772 in VA. He married Eve Shanks and Barbara Shanks. He had a son by the name of Martin and a grandson by the name of Martin. His family was living in Washington County, Indiana in 1850. He married in 1793 in Shenandoah, Va. and died in March 1849 in Indiana. Isaac's son, Martin (b-1794) is the one that I believe married Lucinda Harvey in 1832. If this is correct, is he the one that was murdered in MO.? Charlie Scott---Louisville, KY

Thank you, Marilyn and Ellen, for your quick replies. I'm convinced now that the Martin in Boone Co., Mo. in 1840 was likely the son of Broadus Breedlove, who lived in the same county. Martin oldest son (17 in the 1850 census), was born in VA) By that time Martin and Elizabeth were in KY, so the younger Martin could not have been their son. Marilyn, there was a William in Warren Co records, would have to look it up, but I assumed he was your William's son, because it said he was born July 1800 and my Cinderilla was b March 1800. I was given a list with the same number of children but with about three names different from what Marilyn posted. I don't know enough about Breedlove genealogy to evaluate the differences. Some more information left out of first message. That is Ouachita Parish, LA. The dates of the quit claim and powers of attorney are May-July 1823. Spencer evidently died in 1822. More detail is needed here. Bill

We owe our Congratulations to Don Adams! We now have absolute proof that Spencer Breedlove who was mentioned in the very cryptic will of Charles Breedlove (dated 27 July 1818 - 27 Februaty 1820, Will Bk1, p.5 in Lawrence Co, AL) was a son of Charles Breedlove and Sally Fletcher.. Don has given me permission to pass this on to the LIST. Don has found probate records in the Ouchita Parish court house regarding the death of Spencer Breedlove. A copy of the records given to me by Don clearly shows that Spencer received property via a quit claim from an Eleanor Hook. After George Hook dies, Eleanor marries an Abraham Moorhouse. Spencer Breedlove married Sophia Moorhouse (dau of Abraham and Eleanor? -- not actually specified) and had a duaghter, Eleanor Sophia Breedlove. The copies cannot be completely read in several places, but connected to this estate of Spencer are several Powers of Attorney including ALL OF THE NAMES OF THE CHARLES BREEDLOVE CHILDREN AND THEIR SPOUSES --- (1)James Breedlove, (2)William Breedlove, (3)Catherine Breedlove and husband William Haskew, (4)Martha Breedlove and husband David Scoggins, (5)Nancy Breedlove and husband Hanse Hamilton, (6)Sally Breedlove and husband Francis Ellis, and (7) Polly Breedlove and husband William Hamilton. Spellings are exact as they appear in the documents. Each power of attorney specifically mentions Spencer as their brother. I do not have a specific Probate File or Book reference, but I have asked Don to provide it for us. I owe Don my thanks for sharing this very significant documentary proof. Here again are the details and then some new news at the bottom - this is the newspaper article I took in yesterday: AN EXCITING NEW PROJECT - BARREN COUNTY CEMETERIES TO BE MARKED. Have you ever been driving through our glorious countryside and seen in the distance, an old family cemetery? Have you ever wondered who is buried there? Has it stirred a sadness in your heart when you see your family cemetery unmarked, overgrown and unreachable? The South Central Kentucky Historical and Genealogical Society is trying to take the first step towards saving the memories of these little cemeteries nestled among briars, timber and on the hillsides. We have begun a Cemetery Marking Program that we hope will motivate our citizens, friends, businesses and those with roots in Barren County to designate these cemeteries. There are 612 cemeteries named in our publication, Barren County Cemeteries. Some of these have disappeared between the time they were originally copied by the late Eva Coe Peden and the re-publication of this book in 1992. Some of the larger cemeteries are already marked. The remaining cemeteries are just reminders that once some family lived there and wept over the death of their family members. We are inaugurating a program where volunteers from the Historical Society will begin immediately marking as many cemeteries as possible. Sign World of Glasgow has agreed to make signs for us which will be 12 x 18, heavy aluminum (the same strength as our street signs). They will be brown, with white reflective lettering that will last for a very long time. Shown at the top of the sign will be the name of the cemetery; in the center will be the name of the individual, family or business who is placing the sign and date; and at the bottom the South Central Kentucky Historical Society name. The cost will be $25.00 which includes the sign, pole, placement and a photograph, if desired. One copy of the photograph will be returned to the sponsor and the other copy will be placed in a photo album that will be kept at the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center (formerly known as the Museum of the Barrens). If you or someone in your family can place the sign, the cost will be only $20.00. If you have family buried in a little unmarked cemetery, won't you consider adopting that cemetery? If you don't have a family cemetery in Barren County, would you consider adopting a cemetery? Businesses and organizations are encouraged to adopt a cemetery or cemeteries also. What a wonderful way for you to show that you care for the community. We know that we will not be able to mark all the cemeteries, but we are attempting to place signs at as many as we can. Tom King, At one point you said (I believe it was you) that you could maybe get a relative to look for the Breedlove graves on Drakes Creek if you knew where it was. I looked at an Atlas over the weekend and saw that Drakes Creek runs between Warren and Simpson Counties in Kentucky, in the right hand corner of the two. Also, Simpson is right on the border of Tennessee, and about thirty miles from Wilson Co. TN. Carole

Lucrecy Breedlove's estate was presented for Inventory & Appraisement in Essex Co. on Jan. 20, 1772 by Peter Trible, Nathan Breedlove & John Mann. Robert Mann was Administrator. Mary Trible, Nathan Breedlove & Constant Edmonson [sister of Mary Parr Breedlove] were among those owed money out of the estate.
