I've posted this before but I thought I might post again. I'm still looking for any information on a male child named Jasper P. Snider born somewhere in TN around 1857. By age 3, he somehow came to be living with Jacob Breedlove born abt 1827 in SC and Barbra (probably his wife?). This information is from 1860 Walker County GA census. The child shows up again in the 1870 Walker County GA census as Jasper P. Breedlove (may have been adopted) and is living with Elisha Breedlove b.1826 in SC. The child, Jasper P., is my gggrandfather. He married Sarah Avans and moved to Jackson County AL by the 1880 census records. I'm hoping he might show up in someone else's line, especially the SC Breedloves. We also know that Jasper had a sister named Bettie that was born in SC about 1850, never married, and died in Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., TN on or about 13 March 1927. Tom King, Thanks for the reply. Dot Avery and I are 1st cousins, Johnie Clyde an uncle. Both Dot and I were at the funeral. Knowing Dot, I can believe you've been in contact with her, as have others in the list. Sorry, I don't know of any genealogical software with date frequency regression. I'd like to see this myself, and not just for birth dates. Death dates, marriage dates, and others, would surely be handy for searching obits, wills, and other sources. Tom King, The Anna mentioned was described in the email Tom Jones forwarded from a non-subscriber to the list on Dec 15. If there is a connection to Johnie Clyde, I'm not aware of it. Any connection would have been through Anna's husband. What struck me is that two people with the BREEDLOVE surname had died the same day. To answer your other questions, yes, Johnie's wife, daughter, and grandchildren survive. I specifically omitted them, since I do not have permission to publish information on them. My assumption is you have their names from other sources. Evergreen Memorial Cemetery is located in Sylacauga, Talledega County, Alabama. Hope no one gets confused on all the Toms involved in this exchange. It seems to be a popular name these days. For those of you interested in researching this further, may I suggest that you look into the Guion Miller and other rolls documenting the Indian Nations? If you are not familiar with this, the Government in the late 1800's decided to award a stipend to those members of the Five Civilized Tribes that had been forced to give up their land and remove to the midwest. Many thousands of individuals applied for this money, though many were turned down because they could not adequately "prove" their Indian connection. The good news is that these applications are a wonderful genealogical source, citing siblings, children, parents and grandparents. These rolls are available at many of the National Archive branches (believe it or not, there is even a set at the branch here in New England at the Pittsfield, MA branch, though none of these tribes resided in the Northeast). I have the two volumes of the "Cherokee Indian Rolls" authored by Bob Blankenship. This traces the Cherokees only and not the other tribes (I think). If your people ended up in western NC, eastern TN, etc., then there is a good chance there may be a Cherokee connection. Another option is Lumbee Indians, also one of the Five Civilized Tribes. I.E., in Blankenship's list for the Dawes/Guion Miller Rolls of 1898-1914, I find the following Breedlove names: Arthur Carrie W. Cassie Charles W. Emily W. Jack Thompson James W. John C. Mary B. Priscilla Waller W. Walton D. William Curtis William O. Willoughy W. Each of these is followed by a Dawes number and/or a Miller number. You can then find your ancestor's application on one of the hundreds of microfilm rolls where these are recorded. The records are anywhere from four pages to 10 or more. Often there are letters and other documents contained. If the ancestor was turned down, that did not necessarily mean that he did not have Indian blood - only that the proof was inadequate. Additionally, if your ancestors name is not on the rolls, that does not mean he did NOT have Indian blood. Many people did not apply because they did not want people to know they might be part Indian. There are web sites that can help you with this search also, though I do not know, right off, what the URL is. Ancestry.com or WFT Online Library (can't recall which but think it is Ancestry) has a listing of the Dawes rolls and other Indian rolls. I belong to both and will try to find what they have posted on the Breedlove surname with Indian connections and will post to the list (someone remind me if too much time goes by and I forget to do this!).
