I'm so sorry. I have two groups on my address book. This one is called "Breedlove List" and the other is "Breedloves" and means my sisters, children, nieces, nephews, etc. I'm so sorry for having sent the previous message. I know this needs to be genealogy only. Barbara Barbara B. Rollins Abilene Texas brollins@swconnect.net http://www.swconnect.net/~brollins
I'm sending this to a few dozen of my closest friends. The last two months I've taken a saturation course in self-taught html and automated html writing programs. The result is a nearing final draft of a web site. This isn't the permanent site. I've got to get Barbara Darnall, the ISP person and the code together before that happens, but this is a workable site for troubleshooting. If any of you have time to look at it and send me your suggestions, I'd certainly appreciate them. The temporary URL is this: http://members.xoom.com/PlaytymeWeb Thanks. I was doing a lookup for someone today in my Reminiscent History of the Ozark Region book (Goodspeed) and came upon this name (Peter MANKIN) in the index. It caught my eye because we have not been able (yet) to establish whether or not my 3rd G-Grf's middle name would be William Mankin Breedlove, or William "Martin" Breedlove. William M. Breedlove lived in Crawford county, MO. On page 777 of the book, in the bio for Major Charles GALLOWAY of Greene County, MO, it gives an account of one of the Civil War events in his life/career and says that Charles was "in many engagements through Missouri and Arkansas and on Jan. 4, 1863, with only twenty men, made a dash into Ozark, AR, and when ordered to halt, gave his characteristic order to charge, the result being that a number of prisoners were taken, also several horses and and a number of guns, and some stores destroyed. He was also sent to Crawford county to break up the gang of Peter Mankin's desperadoes, who were suppose to be hiding there...." This Peter Mankin was the only person with that surname mentioned in the book. Probably much ado about nothing, but I am throwing it out there. Carol Wilkerson
I really don't mean to be an "ol' bag" about this, but can we have posts to the list about Breedlove genealogy, and personally email people like Tom about his database? I know Tom's database IS Breedlove genealogy, but just to tell him you are happy doesn't need to be sent to anyone but him does it? I am not trying to start anything here, honest. I just would like to read viable Breedlove news in the digest. It is hard enough when there are "mystery" subject lines when you are on multiple mailing lists. Researching these surnames: BREEDLOVE>VA>KY>MO; DAWSON>KY>MO; HARRISON>NC>KY>TN; HEDGEPETH>VA>TN; HOLMES>VA?>TN>MO; KELSEY>TN; MOLINE>SWDN>MN>WA; NORDGREN>SWDN>IA>WA; OSGATHARP/OSGATHORPE>ENG>NC>KY>TN; PENTECOST>?>IL>TN; POINDEXTER>ENG>VA>KY; REDDIN>WALES>NC>TN; REGISTER>DE>TN; Elezer SMITH>?>TN; John SMITH>MD?>NC>TN; SPEER>NC>TN; STEELMAN>SWDN>PA>MD>NC>TN; WRIGHT>KY>MO; YATES>TN>MO>WA. cool, Tom!! So glad to hear it! TINA/CA

Some of you must have been saying some prayers for my hard drive. All of a sudden the crashed drive started recognizing most of it's files, at least on the 1.1 Gig partition I had all of my genealogy on. Was able so far to recover all of the Breedlove databases (16) and probably 60 others and move them to the new hard drive. Ran the programs and verified that the data was still good in all the Breedlove and my other three main databases so I am out of the dark for the most part. There are still over 40 databases still left and numerous other files left on that drive, not to mention all of the other drives to try to recover, but at least the main part has been restored. Other papers were signed Thomas W. Breedlove. These are the same that were mentioned in the Hope Perry Breedlove book. But she did not name the third child - he was listed as "unknown" . His name was Lemuel according to the documents that I found. Regards, Linda

Things are looking a little better today. Downloaded an update of Gibson's SPINRITE program which is a program I've long used to detect and restore bad sectors on my drives. Ran it on the drive with all of my genealogy and it identified a lot of bad sectors and restored some of them back to good usage. I was able to move all of my KING database and 630 out of 700 letters, plus about 200 other files and Gedcoms, but still am not able to access any of the three Breedlove good databases. Will go back to SPINRITE later tonight and run it at a deeper level of correction. At least I saved my bookmarks, though they show up funny on this old version of Netscape I installed, and I can surf the web for new information, even if I don't have a database to put the data into. There is just too much information out there so I add a little to the Breedlove file every day, mostly from online obituaries of some dying within the past week. This is really going to put me further behind with the new data stacking up with no where to go. As if my stacks of research weren't high enough already. Bought another spare backup drive at CompUSA today, an 8.4 gig Maxtor for $100 after rebate, and I'll keep it in my machine instead of the server so my son can't get to it. Then I'll take his CD writer and make backups onto CD. With blank CD's under a buck, it's fairly inexpensive. Tom King
TOM * ALL: I too was very sorry to hear of your hd crash. I had a crash several mos. ago (but we had backed it up only 3 mos. prior, so I didnt actually lose everything, only the prev. 3 mos. worth) - but since then, I've tried to back up everything that is really impt. to me, because I know how fast it can happen. A good lesson for all of us. I think we sometimes come to depend on these MACHINES a little too much ... thinking they are infallible. Best of luck to you, TINA/CA
Hello Tom Hello Tom I am getting mail delivery failures when I send email to tomking@freewwweb.com So, I decided to post this message to the list. I am very sorry that you had a hard disk failure. I hope you can find a company that can economically recover your hard drive. Ontrack has a service where they can sometimes recover the data using dial-up via a modem. Ontrack Data Recovery Emergency Help Center http://www.ontrack.com/hc/ec.asp Yahoo also has a list of companies in the data recovery business. http://dir.yahoo.com/Business_and_Economy/Companies/Computers/Services/D ata_Recovery Steve ----- Original Message ----- From: tomking <tomking@freewwweb.com> To: <BREEDLOVE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 11, 1999 8:41 AM Subject: [BREEDLOVE-L] Breedlove databases > Due to my hard drive crash, I'm afraid I have lost everything on all of > my research including the genealogy databases over over 250,000 names, > all of the photos I've scanned, the separate DBase files of census, > cemetery, baptism and marriage records, plus all of my correspondence, > etc. My son reformatted the spare hard drive I was using for a backup > so all of the data is gone. Dear Tom, I know I speak for the whole list when I say that I am very, very sorry that you have had such an awful crash. You have been so helpful to all of us that we have begun to count of you for the definitive answer to our questions. Hopefully, you will find someone to retrieve your data. My husband suggested going on the web to seek help. You have probably already done this. I immediately backed up my computer after reading your message. I had not done it since January. This was a wake-up call for me. Good luck. Martha
Due to my hard drive crash, I'm afraid I have lost everything on all of my research including the genealogy databases over over 250,000 names, all of the photos I've scanned, the separate DBase files of census, cemetery, baptism and marriage records, plus all of my correspondence, etc. My son reformatted the spare hard drive I was using for a backup so all of the data is gone. My only hope is that I can find an inexpensive data recovery service that can extract the files from the hard drive. The boot record is intact and it sees all of the files with correct size and date stamp, but when I try to view the file the machine gives a unable to read error message. Some files can be read and I'm in the process of moving those to a good hard drive. It appears that about every other sector or so is unreadable. The only good news is that I kept the main BREEDLOVE data current in PAF, PAF 3, and in Master Genealogist, so hopefully at least one of these can be recovered. Have started fresh with a new 9.1 Gig Hard drive so it will take me some time to reload all of the software programs and get all of the updates off the internet. I do have 5 or 6 other hard drives laying around that may have some older backups on it but again that is going to take some time to set up and go through, so in the mean time, I would request no one ask me anything too involved. I do have the paperwork research to fall back on, but I would almost rather give it all up than have to re-enter everything that took me ten years to input into the computer. Tom King

I am trying to find parents and siblings of Peggy Breedlove who married Samuel Moad 28 Feb 1833 in Orange County, Indiana. They had 2 known children named Nancy Riley Moade and John Franklin Moade. They were born 1837 and 1839 respectively. They were both born in Orange County, Indiana. Both children died in Oregon. It is very possible that Peggy was born in TN or NC and came to Indiana in the 1820's or early 1830's. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I have searched for Peggy's parents for many years. My lineage is as follows: Mark David Jones Kathryn Lorna Fleck Louis Fleck Elcy Frances Simmons Nancy Riley Moade Samuel Moad and Peggy Breedlove John Mode(also lived in Orange County, Indiana) Peggy died in 1849 in Indiana, exact place, unknown. Peggy was born about 1814. Please let me know if you can be of some help. Thank you, Mark D. Jones

All of Annie's younger sibs, incl. my grandfather (even her 3 yr old sister KATIE) were shown living in the HH of Frank Breedlove & Annie S. Breedlove in Macon! I have learned that Katie Stembridge was raised by her older sister, ANNIE BREEDLOVE, and Annie was more of a "mother" to her as she was old enuf to be her mother, and something happened to their mother (prob. died). I would love to have contact with some of these descendants, esp. find some more of the BREEDLOVE LINE. Hope to hear from you! *TINA/CA* tina@tcsn.net
This one bounced to me -- send your responses to the list! Tom --[ FORWARDED PRIVATE MESSAGE ]-------- To: VSVE92A From: Tried49700@aol.com Subject: NEW SUBSCRIBER Date: 03/26/99 10:21 AM Hi! I just found and subscribed to the Breedlove List this morning. I'm pretty much a newcomer to research - have been at it off and on for about a year, but have found some great information. I am a decendant of Thomas Watson Breedlove, who was born in GA, lived in AL, then moved to AR in 1863. Do not yet know when he died, although I know it was after 1878. I have a point of confusion which I hope someone can clear up. I have found Thomas Watson Breedlove in both Alabama and Arkansas censuses with a wife named Sarah Bingham Breedlove. Yet I have an article from the 11/2/1941 Arkansas Gazette, "Glimpses of Yesterday", profiling my great-grandfather William Thomas Breedlove. In it, the author states that WT's mother was Mary Elizabeth Bingham. Does anyone know anything about this branch of the tree? I don't know if Thomas Watson had two Bingham wives, or if the author of this article just had mistaken information. I've never heard of Sarah being a nickname. Thomas Watson also married Virginia (Reynolds) Hildreth in the 1870's. My sister and I have a set of five journals she wrote from 1865 to 1878 while living in Camden, AR, which we are currently transcribing. Although her entries after the marriage become much less frequent, she often mentions members of the family living in Arkansas and Louisiana. I'm in Georgia, so my research is mostly limited to the Internet and mail. Am looking forward to seeing what you all have learned. Jan Morris
